"It's a completely different situation (in the NHL). Last year was all about performance. You have to win every night,'' Connolly said after practice Tuesday. "Sometimes you're not going to play as much as you like. Down here, it's more development. Having me down here has been good for me. I feel like I'm in juniors again, scoring. It's nice to get that feeling back. Being a go-to guy on this team will help me down the road.''

Tampa Bay assistant general manager Julien BriseBois said skill players like Connolly in particular need a lot of playing time to expedite their development.

"It's easy for him to be involved in the game when he knows he's going to be on the ice more,'' BriseBois said. "I think he's a lot more assertive on the ice, with and without the puck. There's been a progression from the start of camp to now where he's increased the number of active shifts to inactive shifts. He's doing a better job getting involved in the play.''

Injured Syracuse Crunch rookie center Vladdy Namestnikov has been buzzing around practice and looks to be close to a return.

Namestnikov has been out with a shoulder injury since Oct. 21. He might not be back this weekend, but a return immediately after Christmas is possible.

"I'm feeling better. I'm getting back into it,'' he said after practice Tuesday. "Hopefully, I can be in the lineup soon and prove I can stay in the lineup.''

On Saturday, Conacher had the first fight of his pro career, against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Joe Morrow. After practice on Tuesday, Conacher said he's ready to go again, if needed.

"I think so, now that I got the first one of the way,'' Conacher said. "I'm not going to look for a fight, but now I have one under my belt.''
Quote:
Conacher said a few Syracuse players were baiting Morrow all game long to get him to go. He refused. The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Morrow was apparently more agreeable when the 5-foot-8, 179-pound Conacher challenged him in the third period.

"I've never dropped the gloves. But I was watching the game, I felt maybe he was the guy I could fight,'' Conacher said. "He's got to understand. Obviously, We're not a team that will do something dirty (to start a fight). I picked my spot. I'm sure he was ready for something. I just threw my gloves off and started throwing. I think I did OK.''

Anthony Mantha, possible 1st rd pick,
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=647144

Emile Poirier, possible 2-4 rd pick,
http://www.hockeyprospect.com/tag/Emile-Poirier
Poirier has crisp offensive moves, has speed, a gritty attitude, leads his team in scoring, is a plus player on a bad team, and has good size at 6'1. I'm surprised he never gets mentioned as a possible late 1st, early 2nd rd pick. A sleeper for us maybe.

If we were going for a gritty two way forward with some offense I'd much rather go after Carrier than Mantha in Q speaking. Every time I see Mantha he's invisible, but somehow always does end up with a point or two. Carrier just brings it all, leadership, hitting, two way play, offense, defense, etc. Unlike Mantha Carrier doesn't have really anything to work with and doesn't need to feed off other players like Mantha does.

Does anyone have any news about our prospects in their respective WJC camps? I tried skimming through the WJC forum on the main page but it was just too much info to look through.

From the Swiss WJC board,
Quote:
Rafik Soliman
Hockey's Future Staff

From their 1st shift on Tanner Richard and Alessio Bertaggia where aggitating and trash-talking... It took about 12min and Tanner Richard and Dominic Forget got together, resulting in penalties for both and a PowerPlay for Visp.
In the 2nd period Allesio Bertaggia and Niki Altorfer started a brawl and got 4min penalites.
I don't know why the coaching staff didn't held them back, since both are offensivly so important to the team to loose the to stuppid penalties like that... I mean Tanner Richard even started to mock Didier Massy the head ref and catched a 10min disconduct for unsportsmanlike behavor...
Also, someone mentioned Kucherov looked good in Russia's first exhibition game.

Remember when coming back from a 3 goal deficit was rare and special? Yawn.

Tik has to be better than that...

good point since we came from 3-0 deficit, and bad luck in OT with labrie and Brown chances but in the SO Tik has to be simply better.

Yeah with this team I never get get the feeling they are done. But if they don't take the lead then I am concerned because i do not like their OT and SO record.

Agreed. Although Panik's penalty shot was a thing of beauty. Brown and Labrie also had a shift in OT were they flat out dominated.

The Ontario Hockey League’s most interesting stat line these days just might belong to Tanner Richard.

The Lightning forward prospect has a team-best 39 points for the Guelph Storm, but only three goals.

His 36 assists rather, currently rank third among all OHL skaters and are an astounding 15 more than that of his next closest Storm teammate, Zack Mitchell, who has 21.
Quote:
“He’s a good two-way center with strong hockey sense, but he also plays a real solid defensive game and has some grit to his game,” Murray said.
Quote:
“I do like to pass a lot and set up teammates, but there’s more skills to my game that I can bring,” Richard said. “I can be used as a power forward-type player who can score some goals and get to the dirty areas, but I can also play on the penalty kill and be used on the power play. I’m a bit of a role player, I guess. Put me wherever you want on the ice and I’ll do my best.”
