Was at the game tonight, pretty disappointing effort in the 3rd period by the OHL guys.
My likes : Graovac, Puempel, Strome, Ritchie, McDavid, Percy, Finn, Nichushkin (didn't pay attention to too many Russian players)
Dislikes: Koekkoek, Ceci, Murphy, Yakupov
Wouldn't it be nice if we knew how to protect a one or two goal lead. Maybe that is what Spott was trying to get into their heads. Our track record is not good.
I am not impressed with Ceci either.
I am starting to like Ritchie. This Graovac impressed me. Rather unhearlded.
I call Strome the pretty boy.I know he is pretty to watch, makes a nice toe drag and all that but he disappears too much for me . Everyone got him pencilled in for top center billing.Put him on the third line and make him earn it. I like Mackinnon for second line center and PP.
Well, make up your own mind and answer your own question (if you even saw the game)... what difference does it make what anybody else thinks if one player or another was outplayed, since the whole point of this process is to determine who plays at Christmas and who doesn't... but if Finn outplaying Koekkoek in one game is that important to you, then perhaps he did... but if you saw the game draw your own conclusions and state/argue your opinion. If you didn't watch the game, then pose the question...did so and so outplay so and so?
they should split Yakupov and Koko they have no chemistry at all.
I think so far the tournament warrants a serious talk to Yakupov from Varnakov and the message should be - get on with the team concept, you take a seat.
Loved Leivo's board work. Extremely impressed after watching last night. That entire line was by far the best for team OHL. Other notables would probably be the shutdown pairing of Percy and De'melo. They absorbed the majority of the important defensive responsibilities and Russia got nothing on the PP.
Brett Richie was very impressive until he took that horrible penalty at the end of the game.
Unimpressed with Strome, Murphy. Koekoek really only got beat once which cost the team a goal, the rest of his game was decent. I looked to Murphy and Strome to run the offense and quarter back this team. They looked completely flat, Murphy is usually flying around the ice, he looked like he could barley skate. I really hope Murphy is cut from team Canada because he was underwhelming in the summer and once again i was extremely dissapointed with his play. Seemed uninspired. There are a lot of kids who can pick up the slack and want to be there. He seems to entitled.
So the top 3 D yesterday for the OHL was Finn-DeAngelo-Percy? and who was the top 3 forward?
Thanks
*Demelo* and yes, I've said it before I think Percy can be a steadying presence on the team and make it before the more highly touted defenceman. Such a smart, safe yet effective player.
Is this basically the team Russia will be sending to the WJCs?
close, but yesterday - no Grigorenko, Zlobin, and Zykov (i think all 3 have a good chance of making it), no Kucherov ( i hope Varnakov changes his mind on him), no Slepyshev (rehabing an injury), no Makarov (but he will likely be a back up), also 2-3 guys will make the team from the U-20 team that is now in Sweden. I would say 80% of WJC team is what you had seen last night.

Don't count on it. With Spott has head coach, I'm sure he'll make the team, no matter how underwhelming his play
Prokhorkin won't be there, doubt monarchs gonna let him go, they didn't for the SSS
Is he playing a lot of minutes. Doesn't seem to be an integral part of the team, I think they can do without him for 3 weeks. I bet they release him for the tourny.

i dunno, really...he's not a lock to make the team, actually he was cut from 93 more often than not.

They got Finn and Ceci or Koekoek in on one of the first PP's and we generated about 3 solid opportunities. Murphy was given every other PP start and it was perimeter passing/behind the back blind passing/barley capable of keeping the puck in the zone. It looked like beating a dead horse.

Yeah, but I still don't think Spott will cut him. Not after he was cut last year. I'm not saying it's fair. I'm just being honest about what I think will happen.
