When someone says a pro or semi-pro is terrible they mean in comparison to their peers.

Colton Orr is a better hockey player than all of us, does it mean he's not terrible in comparison to his peers?

I'm pretty sure it was Pouliot.

^ Yup it was Pouliot, but whoever was the centre was on fault for the Russian's second goal.

Oh no here comes Toronto vs the hockey world again.

Rielly was not bad in that period, lacked a step since last game, but made things happen. Dumba who I love was really brutal.

The website says Dumba and Pouliot were on for the first, I missed it, was Rielly on? Pouliot was on for Wotherspoon for the second.

I thought Reinhart had a pretty good period too. Especially on that PK, and immediately following.

I didn't think Rielly had a bad period.

First goal obv. wasn't his fault. Second goal, maybe he should have stepped up but where were the forwards? He made some stuff happen offensively.

I expect that he'll be given the green-light on offense for this period. I hope.

Griffin Reinhart was the best defenseman that period, I thought.

I rewinded it and Pouliot and Rielly were on the ice.

Overall WHL hasn't been as impressive as I'd hoped. Complete lack of offense and the OHL were much better at limiting scoring chances IMO. Brossoit was excellent last night.

I have to disagree. Many mistakes, and one real bad giveaway.

In hindsight, I thought the D backed in a little too much, but that was essentially an odd-man situation, and you can't be as aggressive as you'd want to there. I'd agree that the failure was really on the forwards. You need that backside pressure, and there was just nothing there. The defense was completely hung out to dry.

Looked like the puck also redirected of Pouliot's stick on that play, but needless to say the forwards dropped the ball on that sequence for sure. Good play by Khokhlachev though.

Let's just say not a great period for the WHL. Not scoring and not really stopping the goals either.

Can't forget Reinhart, probably was the best defenseman that period.

I am Dumba-fan more than Rielly-fan, but you must've been blind not seeing how many forced passes were intercepted or how many turnovers took place by him in that period.

Hoping to see WHL come out strong in the 2nd. Set the tone early.

They need an ugly goal, then I could really see this game opening up.

He has been blind to the notion that if he is drawing a crowd, that must mean other people are wide open. He has been a detriment to Russia, not an asset. I'm wondering whether Edmonton might be thinking that he could use another year in junior hockey, and maybe a year or two in the AHL before he is ready for the NHL.

My point is best illustrated by his penalty shot last night. From the time the whistle blew, his penalty shot took about 7 minutes, because he was skating so slowly that i honestly thought that he might fall asleep before he reached the net. Obviously, he has been very successful in a CHL environment in the past, but I can't believe that his stock hasn't plummeted after this series.
I agree with you. Showboating, poor decision making etc. Its seems that he has lost the sense of collectiveness of the Russian system. Look at the 2nd goal tonight, great collectiveness, using creative passing, speed and deceptiveness to completely manipulate/disect a systemically strong defense. That is what makes Russian hockey fun to watch, not this shoot everytime I get the puck or go around everybody by myself style. Yak has also been awful on the pp, that 5-3 was so bad, everyone including my grama new the shot was coming from Yakupov.

The offense has to wake up and put some points on the board.

I want to see Khokhlachev split up from Yakupov. Both want the puck too much, get them their own lines. Worked last year but isn't right now.
