Vancouver's window is closing. This gives the nuck's probably the best one/two punch in the league and a gritty, third line center. Edmonton gets a top pairing defenseman, a number 1 goalie and adds some toughness to their talented youth. Calgary moves forward with Bearschi/Backlund/Eberle
Ehh...It's a thought, but no. I don't want to move Kassian for a rental(I doubt we could re-sign Iginla). If it were Schroeder than maybe, but otherwise I'd rather not. Luongo + Kassian for Iginla is what it boils down to in terms of value, and I just don't feel it's there.

Does bode an interesting question though. If Calagry would do Kassian for Iginla? We could then deal Luongo for futures to make up for the loss and have one juggernaut of a roster for a couple years. Toss a conditional pick if Iginla walks on us, so we at least get something guaranteed.
Not a chance from Edmonton. We're not going to trade our 22 year old, PPG player for two overpaid, underachieving players and Kassian.
Don't forget about ditching Horcoff's gross contract! I first thought about Yakupov, but seemed like Eberle might fit better. I wouldn't want to give up Eberle either but honestly I think it makes your team more well rounded and better.
I can't see Edmonton moving Eberle. He signed an extension with Hall, and is a big part of the upcoming teams chemistry (great with RNH, for example.)
I think Edmonton would rather stick with Dubnyk than take the risk on Luongo's contract, would rather hold onto Musil, and while Bouwmeester has more value than these boards tend to believe, not enough to warrant moving players like Musil.
That, combined with Edmonton's depth at centre, and this deal doesn't work. While Horcoff is overpaid, he'll be playing a big part of the team as a third line checking centre with Smyth and likely Ryan Jones. I can't see them moving him without another player that can play that role, and Lander/VandeVelde/Belanger aren't at that level.
So, Oilers get rid of Horcoff's contract (at the cost of Eberle and Musil) but then they take on Luongo's AND JBo's? Terrible deal. Calgary makes out like bandits.
Canucks aren't trading Kassian, and the Canucks' window isn't closing. I hate when people say that. If it was true, then every team's window is closing. Its as though people think the Canucks will just sit on their hands and get old, until they have nothing left of value and have to rebuild with multiple lottery picks during seasons of tanking. Guys like Kassian will keep that window open... he's not going anywhere.

I think the response would be the same with Yakupov. Edmonton won't need cap space until Horcoff is off the books, anyway, so they're not pressured to dump him. They clearly need his skill set, as well.
I think that Edmonton will wait and see if the new CBA pressures teams tight to the cap, and offers young players like Pajaarvi for an experienced defender. I can't see them moving a player like the big-5.
Underwhelmed by Kassian, Lu's good but not worth giving Eberle up for and his contract will cripple the oilers. Bouwmeester is also good but wed only get 1.5 years out of him before the current d prospects push for roles
Pass from the Canucks. Kassian's going nowhere. I've always liked and respected Iginla, and he's the kind of leader the Canucks really need, but not as his age if it means Kassian leaving. Also want no part of Horcoff whatsoever, and not interested in Luongo staying in the division.
Oh, and 3-way trade between the Alberta teams and Vancouver. Yeah, not really...based in reality.
Ovechkin's overpaid and underachieving, would you trade Eberle for him?
Anyways, Luongo is neither overpayed nor underachieving. Right now, at least.
Yea honestly. No I wouldn't. Ovechkin is the better player but it's about the team chemistry and neither Luo or Ovechkin fit. I really hope you don't think Luo's value is comparable to Ovechkin or Eberle...

No, but I think Luongo + Jaybo + Kassian + Ditching Horcoff is probably overpayment from a pure value standpoint.

Ovechkin is 27 and has been PPG in every season he's played except for last year. I'd say the chances of Ovechkin of bouncing back are quite a bit better than Luongo's.
