Nice (promo for 125th anniversary tome) video with timeline of a number of milestones and some very classic/iconic images from the National Geographic magazine.

Friend discovered high speed mode on her camera. Shots of her greyhound running in back yard (and shaking at end).

TasteofFlames should enjoy this one:

This is the first time a Giant Squid has been filmed in depth:

Bacteriophage:

Pink Freshwater Dolphins (endangered):

Hypselodoris kaname

Paramacrobiotus craterlaki (quick note about these guys. They can survive in the harshest of environments. It's been seen that they've survived in temperatures from 0 kelvin to 151C. Also returned alive in studies where they were exposed to a vacuum in outer space in low orbit)

I would never want to own a greyhound, but I love watching them run.

OT story: My dog is a husky/lab, she loves to run, and she's very used to being the fastest dog in the park. I took her to the park about a year ago, and someone happened to be there who rescues greyhounds from the track. After half an hour of my dog whining to race them, he finally lets one off the leash and they start running. My dog got smoked. The greyhound even lapped her.

It was the first time I had seen one in person, and I was just stunned at how fast they really were. It's the kind of thing that's very different to watch on video vs. seeing it in real life.

Holy crap - if you slow that down to watch at a standard 30 frames per second full motion video, it would take you over 4 days to see that one second unfold.

Have fun editor!

A laser pulse passing through a bottle filled with water. It's been a long time since I read the article about this, but I believe the team built an extremely fast camera (obviously). It's not a real time recording, but a bunch of frames from separate pules compiled together. They just took the picture a little later each time, or something.
