I haven't watched the games, but did see the highlights of the last game. Glennie seemed to be in a lot of those clips, so he can't have been playing that bad, right?
So I'll say it again. Fire Willie.
Honestly he wasn't even good as a coach for the big club. Wasn't he the one that coached the PP when it was terrible? Doesn't seem like he's lived up to the hype surrounding him.
This has gone beyond absurd to just stupefying. With no NHL season and lots of prospects on the farm this is the very time to push the envelope and see what these guys have. Scratching Glennie for Mike Hedden, whoever the hell that is, is just stupid.
The team is already struggling and not playing well so you should embrace the youth movement even more heavily because spares like Hedden and Barker aren't going to improve the fortunes of Austin or the Dallas Stars going forward. Joe Niewendyk needs to lay down the law or Willie needs to be fired. This situation is currently intolerable.
Quite frankly Joe doesn't get any more chances. He's had enough hires. Everything that's being done or not done ultimately reflects on him. You have to assume there's some plan within the organization for these prospects. And that plan apparently calls for not playing some of them.
Drafting has come a long way under his tenure. Development? That might be another story.
The drafting homage should go to Les Jackson and the scouts. Those guys deserve praise but the development in Austin doesn't appear to be anything to write home about. When's the last guy who really came on strong for the AHL team? Dillion had his breakout in juniors. As did Fraser. Vincour practically made the jump straight to the NHL. Philip Larsen is the only guy I can think of that really benefited from his time in Austin but all of those guys were making huge strides before arriving and just continued them there.
Austin hasn't been a black hole of development but it hasn't been a shiny example to be lauded either. Count me in the txomisc camp of people who are rapidly losing patience with GMJN. There hasn't been much of anything that shows he's the guy I want making staff hires.
