Jared Cowen Out For Season

Per Garrioch

Crushing blow for what seemed like a team on the rise. If the lockout ever ends, I'd be interested to see what Ottawa would do to fill the void.

We were relatively lucky when it came to major injuries last season.

Eventually the odds even out.

I wonder how many young players approaching their primary years of development are reading that headline with a pit in their stomach in some squalid locker room at a 5,000 seat arena.

Left D-men & 2011-12 stats:
Phillips (Ott) 80gp, 19:06 per game
Cowen (Ott) 82gp, 18:53 per game
Methot (Clb) 46gp, 20:03 per game

Nothing. They were expected to compete for ice time all season. Now Phillips and Methot would get the lion's share, while a bottom pairing D-man could be promoted or acquired.

His season was cut short and his draft ranking fell as a result. And yup, it was a knee injury.

At least it's not his knee. Try to find something positive in a bad injury.

Big blow to the B-Sens.

Hoping for a speedy recovery.

I'm happy it happened this year at least, highly doubt there will be a season at this point anyway, and if there is, maybe we can snag a high draft pick.

Disappointing for him though, must really suck.

Does this mean Eric Gryba or Mark Borowiecki will get some playing time as a bottom pairing defenceman (if there's a season this year).

At this point I'd say Weircoch has the inside track on these two. Depends what they are looking for though, if they want to replace Cowen's stay-at-home and physicality than Borowiecki makes sense. But if its for bigger minutes probably Weircoch. Gryba shouldn't even be considered.

In reality, Andre Benoit makes the most sense and has been (with Lehner) Bsens best player. However he is their captain and was pretty much brought in to lead the young guys in Bingo.

Disappointing, especially with it being labelled a season ending kind of injury. Hope he has a speedy and as smooth a recovery as possible.

Sad to see this type of injury. Hope Cowen comes back healthy for the 2013-2014 season with Ottawa.

At this point he'll probably play as many games as the rest of the players this year
