2/3 of what I'd like to see.

Kulemin-Kadri-Frattin (Kulemin can play either wing)

He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 1963–64, 1966–67 and 1969–70 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 1970–71 and 1972–73. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 1970–71, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.

That'd be an interesting third line. Both Kule and Frattin can play both wings, so it could work either way.

So it leaves our forward group at:

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JVR-Grabo-Mac
Kulemin-Kadri-Frattin
Brown-McClement-Komarov
Steckel/Lombardi/Connolly

Not bad, though I think Lombardi can be a useful piece for us

Kulemin isn't racking up the points in the KHL, but most of the highlights I see has Kulemin in front of the net when they score. He leads his team in +/-, but they aren't as generous with assists over there.

Play maker: Kadri
Shooter: Frattin
Net Presence: Kulemin

Physically Frattin and Kulemin are tanks, Kulemin with the extra weight. They all skate well, Kulemin fastest in skills competition in Russia and with the Leafs. Kadri isn't as fast, but can move and as his supporters will state ad nauseum dangle.

That looks our best line combo's IMO. I was even thinking, you could try keeping the Grabo-Kulemin-Mac line together as they had a lot of success 2 years ago...and have JVR play with Naz and Frattin. Love the look of that line.

Would try and dump Lombardi and Connolly if possible, free up cap space and we have options on the Marlies if injuries occur.

JVR Kadri Frattin would be a Great sheltered scoring line. Though our shutdown line of Grabo, Kuli, and Mac could be better

Marlies @ Penguins Preview

The Toronto Marlies continue their tour of the Eastern Conference tonight against the Wilkes – Barrie Scranton Penguins, the top affiliate of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

I think a shut down line of JVR - Grabo - Kulie could be a key line for us, Grabo plays his best when paired against top lines, JVR has the big body, and Kulie is a defensive beast.

I see it more of this, if there is a 2012/2013 season:

Lupul-JVR-Kessel (60-45-65) pts
Frattin-Grabo-Kadri (45-55-50) pts
Kuli-Bozak-Mac (35-35-40) pts
Brown-Steckle-Komorov (20-25-15) pts
McClement

might as well do the D:

Phaneuf-Gunnarson (40-30) pts
Gardiner-Holzer (35-20) pts
Liles-Komisarek (30-10) pts
Frasor/Kostka

-we need to get rid of Connolly for sure, maybe Lombardi as well.

2013/2014 season:

Lupul-Grabo-Kessel
Frattin-Kadri-JVR
Kuli/Ross-Colborne-Ashton/Biggs
Brown-McClement-Komorov

Phaneuf-Rielly
Gardiner-Gunnarson
Blacker-Holzer

Finn and Percy in the minors

Carlyle has a lot of options in terms of line combos he can work with.

We've got a lot of players who could be used in a top-six role: Kessel, Lupul, Bozak, JVR, Grabo, Kulemin, Frattin, Kadri, Macarthur, Connolly

That is a bottom 5 offense for sure. Burke clearly has some work to do or Kessel will be packing his bags after next season. There is no way he throws away his prime career years to suffocate under a team thats chokes yearly and doesn't have the scoring depth/goaltending to be a contender.

They're playing AHL hockey on sportsnet but it's NOT the Marlies....go figure. Aren't MLSE and Rogers, you know...connected. You'd think they'd be able to show the home town Marlies over a random AHL game.

It's not a big loss I guess since they're showing the Milwaukee(preds)/Chicago(canucks) game. Big Preds fan as some know.

Why does Eakins play Scrivens so much? He's been far from impressive at all. I'm kind of glad to be honest, hopefully Burke sees that there's no way to start this season without acquiring a goalie.

5th straight start and in the previous four games I believe he's only lost once. He's turned the corner, very much looking like the goalie he was last year from what I have seen and read. Also, he's a notorious slow starter. Similar start to last year, he came out slow and Rynnas came out of a cannon, and look how the season ended(though Rynnas was injury based to begin with)

Jon Abbott‏@HockeyAbbs

Lines likely to sound this way tonight: Kadri-Aucoin-Ashton/Hamilton-Zigomanis-Ryan/Deschamps-Colborne-Frattin/D'amigo-Acton-Scott

good lines except damigo should swap with deschamps

Hopefully Ashton can get going with that line.

Also I might be remembering wrong but I think D'amigo is on the 4th line is because he and Acton have good chemistry and they're great defensively together. Combine that with Scott and that's a solid 4th line.

I don't see a really bad line on their roster at the AHL level.
