Really? Don't know how good of an idea this is given his age and the fact he is still supposed to be developing. Anyone know why?

It's because he's lazy.

According to beat reporter tweets:

He wanted to play in the AHL. His contract is not insured against injury in that league. His agent advised him that the ice time isn't worth the risk of losing his contract. Therefore he went back to Toronto to continue training.

I think it's because he knows the NHL and NHLPA are about to kill the sport of ice hockey as we know it all together anyway, so he is smartly pursuing other career options.

Massive insurance doesn't stop Taylor Hall or Jordan Eberle from playing in the AHL. Or any of the big salary players who signed in Europe. Skinner is just a baby who has no interest in improving his game. First thing that should happen once the lockout ends is a Jeff Skinner trade.

Probably not the worse thing. His concussion wasn't all that long ago. It'd be a crying shame if he got another concussion this early in his career playing in the freaking AHL.
