Might as well trade for Justin, too, and have the best OF in the majors.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
Final terms: Upton is five years, $75.25 million with #Braves. Pending physical.

So just over 15 M per.

Fair deal. It should lessen the cost for a guy like Swisher, who is four years older than Upton and plays a less premium position.

He's the biggest enigma in the game but that's good signing. They still need 3B/ LF, depends where they would use Prado.

I suspect they'll trade 1 of their many starters for that LF/3B. Possibly Hanson. Would still have Medlen-Hudson-Maholm-Minor-Delgado/Beachy (targeting June return).

They were rumored to be in on Span, and Twins want a young pitcher with upside and team control..

Braves were reportedly not even willing to move Simmons straight up for J. Upton.

Upton can be frustrating but he's good defensively and is a power bat when he's hot. Best of luck to him in Atlanta.

Good deal for Braves. Upton will fit right in that lefty heavy lineup.

They didn't want to trade Simmons to the Rangers for Olt.

why would the braves trade simmons for jupton?

it's not like they have a cardboard cutout of david justice playing right field. they still have heyward and prado to play left.

so it's "let's see, keep the 23 year old shortstop of the future...or trade him for a guy because we just signed his brother?"

are you banking on brother magic? the opposing pitcher going all "why are there so many uptons in the lineup!?" and throwing the ball to the backstop?

RT, Prado can play 3rd. Chipper has retired.

Ah right, but that's sort of the point though since it was a 3-way proposal. Clearly Arizona couldn't get a deal done with ATL for Simmons while dangling Upton...the Braves beat writer for the ATL paper clearly feels there's no way ATL would trade Simmons for Upton: https://twitter.com/ajcbraves/status/272927676455604224

I don't think that Upton is an enigma, I just think he fell a little short of the hype. Still a good player though, and a pretty decent contract.

It'll be interesting to see how much Bourn gets paid; I didn't expect Atlanta to make a move until he signed.

They need a LFer and it's a great marketing ploy.

Lf :B.J Upton
Cf: J.Upton
Rf: Heyward
3B: Prado
SS: Pasornicky/Simmons
2B: Uggla
1b: Freeman

Prado to 3rd, they can use Tyler Pastornicky at SS as well.

I'm sure they'd rather move Pastornicky+++ instead of Simmons. Arizona wouldn't though.

Good player who fell short of the hype on a not-crazy free agent contract...oddly proper.

Good signing for ATL. Upton is inconsistent/frustrating offensively but he makes up for it in defense.

Bourn wasn't signing back there anyway, but he probably goes to Washington or back to Philly now.

Arizona won't do Teheran with how much pitching they already have, but I'm sure someone would take him for a SS prospect.

Hefty price for a player that was worse than Carlos Gomez last year.

Happy to see him out of the AL east. He was always a bluejay killer.

I'd still rather have Bourn over him though.

Apparently, his thumb injury was bothering him all year. He put a pad on it in Mid-August and put up numbers in line with his 2011 season.

Never been a BJ Upton fan, and with his relaxed effort on the field... I could totally see this guy just calling it quits effort wise, now that he got his big payday, and being a huge bust.
