No. I think everyone who's not an idiot would rather take their career to the highest level in the U.S., than stay in their own country given the opportunity. It's silly to say that it's merely a preference of country, and discount any possible career or attitude related motivations.
If you want to say he's in it for the money, fine, say he's in it for the money. It's also possible that he'd rather be a big fish in a smaller pond, than just another fish in the ocean. Both of these make more sense to me than "he likes Russia better." Neither of them are exactly noble, however.
Quite right, the level of hockey is higher in the NHL, the prestige of the stanley cup is much greater than the Gagarin cup, and it all comes with an added bonus: you're very much less likely to die travelling to, or playing in an NHL game than a KHL game.
Can you explain to me why professional ambition is such a virtue?
Maybe he just doesn't hold hockey to such a religious status...so why not take the money for playing in a lesser league? Nothing wrong with that.
Besides, like many people have said already, he probably just likes Russia better..
IT WAS FOR THE MONEY. He's a good player, but he's still a sell-out, a mercenary, and in my opinion, a man without principle. Kovalev was a great player. He also happened to be lazy. Is it not possible to consider his lazyness because he was a great player?
When you have kids are you going to tell them "whenever you do something in this life, do it for the money."
Yeah, a real player wouldn't be anal over money. That's why there's an NHL season going on right?

Most of the world population would rather have more money and have no respect than have less money and have some respect.
I have no problem what so ever if a worker wants to have a better paid job at his home country rather than working for less in a strange country far from home.

You don't feed your kids with respect.
Especially if your "job" is chasing around a piece of rubber.
You better milk that for all it's worth unless you're an idiot.

The only people parroting anything in this thread in the last day or so has been you and the rest of the Radulov backers.
I wonder, how many of you who are tripping over yourselves to say that Radulov is just the same as any other sell-out, will support those other sell outs with such fervor?
I certainly would. I have had jobs that I loved, that didn't pay anything, and currently have a job that I absolutely hate. And I would much rather drive a nice car and have a nice home and drag myself to work for 8 hours, than enjoy my 8 hours and eat ramen noodles.
always funny when some people act like there's a single player in the league who doesn't play for the money. Seriously.
I have to laugh at the NA attitude when it comes to european players staying at home. Imagine if soccer fans hat the same attitude. Imagine if english fans were the same, slamming top german and french and italian players for not coming to the Premier League! Comical. I sure hope american soccer fans boo the **** out of Landon Donavan because he doesn't have the balls to play higher competition football in europe. I'm sure some english or german 2nd division sides would have room for him. He'd be paid clearly less, but hey, it's all about competition and fame after all!
Somehow, loyalty to an NHL team is always held in high regards but loyalty to your country (being able to play for the NT at world championships) is a crime.

I was also about to bring up the soccer example, but then decided not to so as to not have people saying that just because other people do or don't do something, that doesn't mean it's also valid here. That counterpoint would be correct, of course, but you're also right that no one *****es about these things there (well, at least I haven't heard anyone do that, and I've been surrounded by soccer fans my whole life). Even in basketball, it's similar. I know there was a guy that played on our national team and decided to go play in Russia, rather than stick with the NBA. And I must say I haven't heard anyone saying he wants easier competition there, either.

Well, I guess hockey players need to start shooting bullets, not pucks, and THEN loyalty to their country will be highly regarded by some on these boards.
Bump. Can somebody explain to me why Radulov is so hated? Is because of the bar and curfew incident with A. Kostityn. If it is then why isn't Seguin hated for skipping a curfew too. I remember Bruins fan being pissed because Julien benched him and he was their team's leading scorer. Wasn't Radulov their best player at that time and I don't remember many people defending him. The guy doesn't deserve the hate he gets if that's the reason

Probably because he left the NHL and joined the KHL plus has a bad attitude.
I personally feel indifferent about him but I feel sorry for Nashville fans with the way last playoffs ended for them. Radulov was a big part of the teams struggles then after being eliminated from the playoffs he goes back to Russia and they lose Suter in free agency... Ouch!
