I'm kind of a casual Blue Jays fan but if this deal goes through I'm now Hardcore wow. What a damn steal. 'Bout time we get something to be excited for!
It's easier to steal bases if there's not someone on the base ahead of you...I'd rather have Reyes going to third and Lawrie to 2nd than the other way around...
If we have 2 on base for Joey Bats or E5 I don't want them to try to steal regardless of who is at 2nd and 1st.
He can't steal bases at #2? He has shown as much power as Lawrie has to this point of his career.
I don't know why you are bringing up power when discussing a lead off hitter. Lead off hitters are generally the teams fastest and most consistent hitter, leadoff hitters aren't chosen based on their ability to produce home runs.
Rasmus needs to learn how to hit regardless of where he is in the lineup. Just because he sucks less at #2 doesn't mean he should hit there.
He'll also get a lot of fastballs to hit batting in front of Bautista. He was at one point sporting an OPS above .800 with a way below average BABIP. And personally, I'd rather have Lawrie racking in the runs by batting middle of the lineup than Rasmus, who can manufacture runs with his deceptive speed.
Unbe ****ing leavable. I left the change room after squash at 7:30 to see my friends text saying nothing but BLUE JAYS!!!! I didn't expect this. I spent the last two hours reading the reactions from everyone around here.
I'm glad that there have been posters willingly eating a nice serving of crow pie.
Someone like Adam LaRoche makes a lot of sense for Jays. Fills the void at 1B (EE DH-ing) and is a lefty that you can plug between Bautista and EE if you wanted a R-L-R combination in the middle of the lineup. He's also good defensively.
Yes he is a good fit. I was trying to come up with a lefty guy to fit in the middle of the order and he would be good
people will rip the marlins but really they couldn't even get 70 wins last year with a huge pay roll... they gave up zero assets for Burhlhe and Reyes... just money. There only really giving up Johnson here... Its like when we gave up Rios a few years ago and the new york media ripped us for giving away one of our best players for free (he wasn't one of our best players) its not that we didn't want Rios its just the timing wasn't right. The timing wasn't right for the marlins so they got out of a bad situation... The timing for us is perfect. Playoffs are in grasp now we just gotta hope they can get it done.
People aren't ripping the Marlins for what they got, they got a lot of value in this deal. It's that last year they got a brand new, publicly funded stadium, and preached to their fans that they would be big spenders with the money they're getting from rev-sharing. Now their payroll is going to be under $25-million next year, they'll struggle to win 50 games, and have completely alienated their fanbase.
Imagine if this winter the Jays built a $500-million stadium with taxpayer money, then went and traded Bautista, Romero, JPA, Morrow and Yunel for guys who were far from the majors, and then for good measure, went and traded Edwin for a less than desirable package...How would Jays fans feel?
So will hitting 2nd make that all disappear? I am not saying Reyes should hit 7th or something. I am saying Lawrie should be #1 and Reyes #2, rather than Reyes and Rasmis/Boni. I like Lawrie up there. Rasmus doesn't belong there.
You want a guy with more speed (Reyes) batting lead off. Reyes is more likely to go 1st to 3rd on a single than someone like Lawrie. Speed kills and you want it at the top of your lineup.

I was referring to Reyes batting 2nd, saying he has shown as much power as Lawrie, if power was your concern for a #2 hitter. I think our 4 best hitters are Joey Bats, E5, Reyes, and Lawrie and I think they should hit 1-4. Lawrie doesn't have the power yet to hit 5.

Lawrie does not belong in a leadoff role. Not to mention how terrible he is on the base paths and how bad of a base stealer he is.
So now that Toronto has become an attractive landmark, does that mean more free agents want to come here?

Feel as if the #5 role as a DH or 1B needs to be filled.
The first crew makes wayyyyy less, but damn, it would be nice to have Adrian Gonalez. Obviously the first group makes more sense as a Jays fan, since we need pitching.
