I can guarantee you that the Canucks wouldn't accept that.
If that's all that Burke was offering, the Canucks would probably
1. get a better offer from Florida and accept that
or
2. waive Luongo so we don't have to deal with Komisarek's horrible cap hit (with the salary cap going down to ~$60 mil)
Yea cuz Luongo's cap hit isin't terrible. You won't get rid of his garbage contract if ur not getting a similar one in return. Besides, Komo's contract has only 1yr after this season. Also, the panthers have said it many times they are not interested and cannot afford him...why would they? They have 3 NHL goaltenders in the system!

Yeah, a goalie with a $5.3 cap hit and a .920 SV% is just horrible.
It sucks to be the Canucks.
I don't see this as a move forward, just seems to be a trade for trade sake.

He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level.

Kulemin is one of our better two-way fowards, Gunnarsson was our most consistent defenseman last season. Doesn't make sense just to trade them both away for one defenseman.. Kulemin is worth then that, IMO. Gunnar + Franson alone should get us Girardi.

I think the underlying point was that Kulemin and gunnar would fetch us a top pairing D in return.
Kulemin is a 20/30 guy and Gunnar, while consistent, is still only putting up 2nd pairing numbers. he isn't top pairing, so upgrading him for a top pairing guy would really help fill a big gap we have on D.

Reviewing the defenders on both teams, it looks like the Rangers have 3 top pairing defenders then, or perhaps their entire team isn't a bottom feeder like the Leafs.
Kind of hard to know how any of the Rangers defenders would fare on the Leafs.

Girardi looked pretty darn good to me during their last playoff run. He would slot into our #2 beside Dion. It's not like we don't have talent, it's just that out depth lies outside of top pairing right now. Gardiner Gardiner is great as 2nd pairing but I wouldn't expect him to stack up against opposing teams best line regularly.

McDonagh looked good as well. Staal and McDonagh played almost 2 minutes more ES than Girardi.
Stralman was on their 3rd. pairing, so perhaps he could be on the Leafs 2nd. pairing, replacing someone like Liles.
I just think the price offered is too high. Leafs have 2 players capable of scoring 30 goals Kessel and Kulemin.

I won't disagree with that, but over the last 2 seasons it would appear we have much greater difficulty keeping the puck out of our net as opposed to scoring. That (defense) appears the greater need right now IMO.

Whether you bash Luongo's contract or not does not alienate the facts. Gillis is not going to accept garbage. If that were the return we might as well waive him and not be burdened with your scraps.
This roster still needs a lot of work to become a legit contender. Burke better have some magic up his sleeves...
We need a legit 1st line center
We need a legit 1B defenseman
We need a legit #1 goalie
We could use a top-6 power forward
We could use a 2nd pairing shut-down defenseman
We could use great PKers on the 4th line
Joffrey Lupul - __________ - Phil Kessel
James van Riemsdyk - Mikhail Grabovski - __________
Nikolai Kulemin - Jay McClemment - __________
Mike Brown - __________ - Matt Frattin
Dion Phaneuf - __________
John-Michael Liles - __________
Jake Gardiner - Carl Gunnarsson

I'm seeing a fair bit of this in here recently and it's completly BS.
Gardiner is a #2 D-man all day long. His offensive abilities should allow Phaneuf to concentrate on being more defensively responsible at ES.
Putting Phaneuf continuously into the offensive role of the top pairing used to make sense when he was the best offensive D-man we had, but now with Gards he can play the more defensive role.
Having Kaberle and McCabe on the top pairing used to work just fine. No reason, Gards and Phaneuf can't be as successful.

The new CBA has to be determined, before Luongo's value can be set.
If the Canucks are on the hook for his retirement years his value is much higher.

Even if Gardiner can be a #2, which he certainly isn't yet, that's not the same thing as a 1b.
I think it's probably better to let Gardiner become a real top-4 defenseman before we put him on a 1st pairing with a retard like Phaneuf.

Dion Phaneuf cannot play responsible defense - he's too stupid for that. He's way better off if he can just run wild with his physical tools.

They worked because they were both 1Bs. Neither was really a legit #1, but both were good enough to make a decent pairing.
Terribad, maybe Dubinsky + Jenner for Kulemin + Colborne ? Meh I dunno. I'd rather just hold onto Kule
Yeah I was thinking of something based around Kuli for Jenner. I love Jenner. Guys got that winning attitude, insanely good on the fore check. I think he'll be a 2C when all is said and done.
I like Kulemin a lot too. I'm just thinking out loud lol
