He didn't. He seriously believes the US invading Israel would help relations in the area.

I wish he wasn't being serious, but judging by his posts he's made the last few days about it, he's dead serious.

The US can broker a peace accord without having to invade Israel

Do you know how many people would be angry, in America and in the Middle East, if the US just straight up sent forces from an already stretched military to Israel to "force democracy" and "peace"

You step and divide the country in two. you give palestine their own country and you give Israel their own country.

Anybody messes with israel they become the next Iraq.

both sides are free to evolve.

Which somewhat reassures me. It seems Obama considers them as a rock in his shoe but he doesn't really (and I think nobody does) know what to do with them. Any other state that would act like Israel and that wouldn't be backed by the US would already be invaded by foreign forces (I'm not sure the sentence is well constructed here, hopefully you understand what I mean... the joy of writing in my third language lol).

You can do this without invading Israel. Plus there's that whole dispute about Jerusalem thing. You make it seem a lot simpler than it actually is.

Israel acts like a spoiled brat which makes the whole situation much more complicated.

Jerusalem should be neutral territory (like Antarctica). It is important to 3 of the worlds big religions. Because of that it shouldn't be in any country

Exactly. They throw rocks in a spitball fight and then complain when they get a little bloodied. I feel for both Palestinian and Israeli citizens but not their governments.

I find it funny that the US when Bush was president cited that Iraq had violated UN mandates and that was part of the justification on invading them. But when it comes to Israel, the UN is a bunch of whiny politicians and the UN is nothing more than a useless government body.

My uncle's house was hit this morning in Netivot. Luckily, they were all in a shelter when the air raid siren went off.

That is absolutely not why. Early warning sirens and bomb shelters are why.

Yes, that's why Republicans and Netanyahu is so pissed off at Obama. Obama has shown he can stand up against Netanyahu and won't fall in line with him.

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/...upporting-him/ (hahaha fox news)

Obama has snubbed Netanyahu and has yet to give a definitive answer to the Iran situation, which is pissing off Israel.

Obama and Netenyahu clearly made a secret deal during election because things got really quiet in final weeks after they were hot earlier.

Netenyahu wouldn't attack anyone (Iran, Hamas or Hezbollah) during the final month of election, which would have provoked a crisis and forced Obama in a corner which he really didn't want to be in.

In exchange, Obama clearly gave Netenyahu the ironclad assurances of future support he needed to feel confident the USA would back Israel during a crucial moment with Iran.

Right now Israel doesn't need the USA for Gaza (besides to tell Egypt to behave), but having US B-2 strategic bombers joining an Iran air campaign to perform stealth SEAD and then drop 30,000lb GBU-57 bombs is crucial.

You mean that any other state that would respond to rocket strikes with military force would be invaded by foreign forces? I highly doubt that.

That's what the original partition plan called for, but Palestine turned it down, even as the Jewish government agreed to it

Hamas is claiming they have two Israeli pilots as hostages, but it's yet to be confirmed.

Why "partition" Palestine at all? Why divide a territory that for years has been home to multiple religious groups living side by side in relative peace and stability?

Why, if not in the pursuit of the racist goal of making the land "pure" for it's Jewish inhabitants, i.e., Zionism. Nazism and Zionism are very similar in that both espouse the idea of a pure and unadulterated homeland for the dominant race. To this day no non-Jews can own land in Israel. Colonization is colonization, be it Palestine, South Africa, in short, any European quest for lebensraum.

Why do liberals give Israel a pass on such issues which are fundamentally anathema to the goals and ideals of humanism?
