Good poll.

I'd say the Avs trio as their 2000-2001 season was unreal.

Sakic: 82GP 54G 64A 118P (2nd in points, 3rd in points per game)
Forsberg: 73GP 27G 62A 89P (9th in points, 4th in points per game)
Drury: 71GP 24G 41A 65P (53rd in points 49th in points per game)

Maybe it could've been the Pens trio but we really never got to see all 3 of the Pens trio healthy, in their prime for a whole season.

Here's 2011-2012 for the Pens:
Malkin: 75GP 50G 59A 109P (1st in points, 2nd in points per game)
Crosby: 22GP 8G 29A 37P (1st in points per game)
Staal: 62GP 25G 25A 50P (96th in points, 50th in points per game)

Didn't even bother finding out where Crosby ranked in overall points, but obviously it was well outside of the top 100. So yeah, gotta go with the Avs trio but like I said if the Pens luck was a little better it would be a tough choice.

The Pens won the Cup when all three were healthy. Crosby played 77 games, which is basically a full year.

Malkin won the Art Ross with 113 points, Crosby had 103 points, and Staal 49.

Um...

I think you could argue there are years when Crosby and Malkin were both healthy and they were a better duo than Sakic/Forsberg, but Jordan Staal's offensive skills were not as developed at that point, so it was like Crosby/Malkin > Sakic/Forsberg, Drury >>> Staal. I didn't say they never had a season where all 3 were healthy, I said they didn't have a season where all 3 were healthy and in their prime. I think most Pens fans would agree with me when I say that Staal is a much better player offensively now than he was in 2008-2010.

My vote was for Sakic/Forsberg/Drury.

However there was nothing wrong with anyone who says Crosby/Malkin/Staal.

Offensively it's close so I homer vote Avs. Defensively is definitely the Avs trio.

Crosby and Malkin are the two best players in the game. Forsberg-Sakic were never 1-2 in a season. Staal and Drury wash each other out.

Staal and Drury is a wash. Crosby + Malkin potentially is better than Foppa/Sakic. A lot depends on Crosby's future health. The thing is, at the TIME that those three all played for the Avs, they were better than the stretch during which all three played for the Pens. It's still close, IMO, but Staal only just seems to be coming into his own and someone for the Pens always seemed to be hurt while all three were together.

they wouldn't be if Sakic and Forsberg were currently playing in their prime.

IMO Staal is the outlier between the 6 and not up to par. I'm not saying he's not good but he's only coming into his own now and we'll be seeing the best of him in Carolina while Drury had a great start to his career (46pts rookie year and 65pts sophomore year).

The way I see it, its two greats from the avs, Sakic and Forsberg, plus a young center who had a great start to his career vs Crosby, Malkin and a young center who had a decent start to his career but wasn't given all the opportunities.

I vote Avs trio because Staal-Drury are the difference makers...
If you made it Sakic/Forsberg vs Crosby/Malkin then I vote for the pens

Crosby's is the new most overrated player in the NHL.

Malkin is great and much better than some give him credit for but Sakic and Forsberg in their primes were top 5 for sure.

The only reason why they were never 1-2 is because of Jagr and Lemieux,

If Jagr and Lemieux were in their primes and playing right now, Crosby and Malkin don't sniff at a single Art Ross or Hart.

It wouldn't be that clear cut who is better than the other. It would most likely change year to year.

Sakic was the most complete player of all players in this poll IMO

Toughie. I think Sakic/Forsberg matches as well as Crosby/Malkin - maybe a bit better given their careers, but I'd take Drury over Staal. So the Avs' trio for me.

I just don't see it. Crosby is the best player I've seen since Jagr.

Crosby has already surpassed Sakic IMO peak wise. Crosby's first 7 years in the league is one of the most dominant in NHL history and far superior than Sakic's. At this point, I'd rather have an 09 or even 07 Crosby than Sakic at any point of his career.

Forsberg over Malkin lol what a joke. Malkin blows him away in trophy accolades and he is only 6 yrs into his career.

Doubt that.
Points aren't everything, at all. And the only reason Malkin has more trophies is because he doesn't have near the competition that Forsberg had, also his health issues. Malkin takes games off here and there, something Forsberg wasn't known for.

EDIT: Comparing first 6 years of Crosby's season vs Sakic's is:

572 points in 413 games for Crosby.
566 points in 460 games for Sakic.

Not really "far superior" to Sakic.
