Indeed. I guess he's there to provide an object lesson to Stroman and the other kids about how doping never pays. Errr...
Just have to hope he can sustain the performance without the juice, I guess. But makes the bench a lot stronger with Bonifacio and Izturis taking turns at 2B (although Bonifacio's defence at 2B is concerning).
Get us Ogando (for Arencibia) to be our sixth arm, and Gomes to platoon with Lind, and Anthopolous can take the next few months off.
I still think they'll shed the Buck contract as well. Just so much money for a back up catcher at this point seems odd. I keep having the same thought that Bonifacio will not see significant time at 2B. This signing actually makes me think the door is open for Rasmus to be traded, Bonifacio to play CF for the early part of the season, and then Gose after mid-year. I dont want Colby traded, but that's the feeling I'm getting.
Going 2 years is not the worse thing in the world. If he comes back and plays close to the same level as in SF then you have a bargain for the 2nd year. Worse case next year he is an $8 million 4th OF.
Time to move Raji Davis to the Reds who need a leadoff hitter. Get a few prospects back to replace the ones shipped out this past year. Gives the Reds a leadoff hitter and CF(well sorta haha) and 1 more year to wait for Billy Hamilton to reach the majors.
If Melky can reproduce what he did with the Royals 2 seasons back, i think we'll have a good contract. The risk on this contract is relatively minor as its also 2 years. The benefit is pretty big though. A great fit in the 2 hole.
AA is absolutely killing it. I think we have a good argument to be among the favorites in the AL East.
This just in: live footage of Alex Anthopoulos after his recent flurry of activity -
I would've preferred a 1 year deal on Melky because I'm wary of how much of his success the last 2 years (or year and a halfish) are because of PEDs, but $8m isn't an unreasonable sum of money, and I can live with the extra year I guess.
"Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent."
Sorry, I am not taking signature requests at this time.
At this point I don't see how trading him makes any sense unless we are getting his potential value rather than what he is currently worth. I understand he is streaky at the plate and strikes out too much. However he is still a quality outfielder with good speed and is controllable for at least another 2 years (if I remember correctly). I think with Colby we just need to take the good with the bad and hope eventually he eventually turns into the player, many people believe he could turn out to be.
Fair enough. Despite his shortcomings, signing Melky makes me much more relaxed about our depth on the field
our OF has the potential to hit 70 HRs next year.....ehrmegehrd
I like this move, regardless. We needed a bat. Whether Melky plays LF or DH its a solid solid move. I don't care if he was on the roids... the guy hit .340 and other than a few HR's and xbh's that would have increased that... the average is legit.
At the end of the day... we're on the hook for an 8M 4th outfielder absolute worst case scenario.
From the eye test I'd say Melky plays pretty good D. What are your guys thoughts? Any sabremetricions out there wanna speak to his UZR?
Also last year when presumably Melky wasn't on PED's... he had a solid year. I'm not worried.
