Would help to move Buck's salary, but he has negative trade value, whereas you should be able to get a good return for Arencibia.

Also important, Buck is known by the team to do a good job mentoring young catchers. He was very good working with rookie Arencibia in his last go 'round with the Jays, and I'd expect no less from him with d'Arnaud.

As far as waiting to see how things go with d'Arnaud first, I'm not in the least concerned about d'Arnaud's development. If Anthopolous has to wait a few weeks into the season to sort out the catching situation, and d'Arnaud has to hang out in Buffalo for a while, that's fine. But a Buck/d'Arnaud tandem is plenty good.

Remember the guy named Aaron Hill who we traded last year?

Have you seen his slash line this year? That change of scenery sure gave him a hell of a boost.

The way that this offseason has turned out, thats a hell of a change of scenery for Lind. He won't be counted on as the #3 run producer, or to play 1B every day with the emergence of EE. He'll be able to hit 6 or 7 in this lineup as a DH and get his licks in.

I think he can hit .280 with 20 Hrs and 70 rbis... which by DH standards is above average.

Again a reminder... we don't need 1-9 all-stars, its not going to happen. Of all the "holes" we needed to address 1b/dh was at the bottom. Lind is the LH power bat we need if he can find himself. Supplmenting him with a good platoon righty would make a hell of a difference.

IMO, let's save our prospects now, we can't completely deplete the cupboard, we need to hold onto these guys as a balance, and continue to develop and bring them up when contracts expire or we trade off players in a couple years,

I agree with one more pitcher, and we should go the trade route for a younger controllable pitcher that we can slot into the number 5. But we need to play our cards right and not jump the gun by overpaying for anything.
agreed. This isn't a sure thing to work, and if it doesn't work, we'll either need prospects to make more trades, or to use as cheaper, controllable options to recover from the money sunk into an unsuccessful venture. Gutting everything now would be foolish.

If Adam Lind is our worst hitter, I don't think anyone really as a right to complain.

You think people are excited about baseball in Toronto now?
Most people I know have been pulling for the Jays after the Expos left here in Montreal. Anything that's going to hurt Selig!

Go Jays

This is great! Farrell is somewhere crying and King Anthopoulos is screwing him over. This is what you have to do to get respect; sign quality talent. Toronto fans deserve this.

Leafs and Raptors ownership... you watching?

Bang on Nem.

At the end of the day the reason these moves are elevated from great to AMAZING is because we still have a top 10 farm system chalk full of prospects. All these moves mean nothing in terms of young internal competitoin threatining our big leaguers for playing time.

If he's platooned, no reason to think he won't be solid - his career splits are pretty convincing. Gotta think that Rasmus rebounds too. And Lawrie's probably going to settle in somewhere between his awesome '11 and good '12.
Pray for good health.

The only thing that could make this week better for Jays fans, besides getting a legit first basemen, would be signing Jim Tracy as our manager.

Having switch hitters like Cabrera, Reyes, Bonofacio, Izturis helps with match ups as you don't have to stock your bench with extra players and pinch hit to go with the right match ups

I think more importantly its time to move Dwayne Murphy far from this club. For the most part guys who have come here from other places their hitting has taken a nose dive except for Jose and EE and even then it was more of other influences working on them (Cito and Cano's dad). Don't want Murphy getting his hands on any of these guys.

I think Lind with a new hitting coach that preaches all over the field power can get Lind back to closer to his silver slugger numbers.

How good is the guy we just signed? NHL player comparable?

I tried looking at the stats to get a feel for it, but with 0 baseball knowledge, I don't know how good this guy stacks up against your average MLB player.

They wouldn't have two lefites back to back (Rasmus/Lind), but for the most part the lineup is lookin good.

5-9
Lawrie
Rasmus
JPA
Lind
Bonifacio/Izutris

With this group, I think they need a manager who a) is either Latino, or at a minimum fluent in Spanish; b) has the experience and pedigree to get the players' respect and keep them disciplined and focused, c) is smart enough to know how to exploit the team's speed (unlike the last guy), and d) is smart enough to know when NOT to run. No stealing bases when up by 5 runs in the 4th inning, please-and-thank-you.

So, who does that leave?

Reyes is definitely leading off. Somehow I feel Arencibia will be traded. TDA is the future, Bucky will mentor him.
