I see your point.

On the flip side though, a team can never have too many good pitchers. The staff looks very dangerous but is also laden with question marks. Does Romero bounce back? Does Happ bounce back? Will Johnson be healthy? It can't hurt to remove one of those, along with providing even more injury insurance. Marcum's been here and succeeded. It may very well be worth the extra bucks.

Marcum is going to command 3 years probably 7 mill per (give or take). What he gives you over Happ as a #5 is not worth the difference in salary, and long term committment.

I'd rather go after a "6th" starter type keep the commitment low and see what the rotation looks like before making adjustments.
Well if JJ ends up walking after this season, Marcum is still here as the #3-4. And he is better than Happ, he is a bit more fragile, but it will make this the craziest rotation in the history of rotations.

Gotta stick with the gut though and say he's our #2. Melky that is
Melky hasn't had 40 walks in a couple of seasons and only once has had more than 43. He's probably a safe bet for 35-40 in a full season. I would argue that Boni is highly likely to exceed 50 walks in a full season. He had 59 in 2011 and walked at a clip that pro-rates (depending on if you go by games, PA, or some mix) to around 70 walks.

In other words, Boni walks plenty.

I think it would be great to go after Niese and Davis. JPA++ should interest the Mets.

That + better be a name like Gose, D'Arnaud, Syndergaard or Sanchez if you want both guys.

Really, the upgrade is marginal at this point. We don't need a major move. Small tweaks... keep the farm system strong... let the kids work their way up.

That's still awful for a first-baseman/DH.

I'd be okay with platooning him if the Jays were to sign a Jonny Gomes or something, but that's the only way I'd be okay with seeing him on the Jays.

This might be a myth that needs to be dispelled. Only a handful of teams have DH's that good, and most of the teams who made the playoffs didn't.

I don't believe Wak got more than 61 wins with the club. Please no Wak. I'm pretty sure most Blue Jays fans who think Wak is a great choice watch a lot of sportsnet.... just sayin.

WE CAN DO MUCH BETTER.

Which is probably why its easier to live with Lind now. But still, I would like to see a platoon partner.

Even great teams have holes because that's the nature of the game. Tampa last year had Carlos Pena hit everyday for them hitting .197/.330/.354/.684 in 600 PA.

You are aware that Selig's advisors in LaRussa and Torre told Bud to green light this trade right? No need to turn an ant-hill into a mountain. Turn sportsnet or tsn off for a second.... and do some research.

I'm pretty sure Habsfan realizes the trade won't get vetoed, he was just offering an excuse as to why some people are worried.
