If they're going to interview him at least call him the right name. It's Dougie not Doug.

No problem and I couldn't agree more.

Felger and Mazz fell off after the cup run. I only listen now if Neely is on.

That's damning with faint praise, isn't it? Rather odd that in one of the biggest, if not the biggest, hockey hotbeds in the U.S. the local sports radio stations display such apathy if not hostility toward the sport.

Felger knows a little about hockey, on a par with the average fan, but he's much more interested in the attendent drama because that gets people talking and increases his ratings (e.g. the Chara/Pacioretty incident, 911 and all). He doesn't care to educate himself about the game because he has his own little niche and he's comfy in it.

I'd still rather listen to him, or any other knowledgeless DB than to hear tapes of drunks being interviewed on the street after a game.

Don't normally agree with you, but you're spot on here.

Also, interesting point raised regarding true "hockey" guys on the radio... are there any full timers? I know Goucher and Beers are on every now and then, but are there any full time radio guys who are real hockey guys? Like, know more than Tommy from Quincy?

He is on a lot but to talk baseball and that is Sean McAdam.

Christmas Eve afternoon he was on a full shift with either Beers or Goucher, I can't recall which but it was pure gold.

That is a lesser of two evils choice in my opinion.

Ah, good call. Whenever I've heard McAdam talk hockey it's been incredibly refreshing.

I love McAdam too but it's kind of sad that the best hockey mind on local radio (other than Beers and Co.) is a baseball guy.

I really don't get it. It's not a difficult sport to understand. And Boston is crazy for it. I heard Mutnansky the other day going on and on and on about the upcoming NBA draft, and I don't think he could name one prospective top-five NHL pick. Why is that? Isn't it supposed to be his job?

I will give you a pass on the fact that you were even listening to that dweeb this one time.

I have found that most of the radio personalities love basketball more than hockey. So they speak to what they love and know.

Felger & Mazz has become just like everything I hated about EEI.

Not really a single show out of 8 I want to listen to for sports. I'd still listen to Toucher and Rich for entertainment, but not for sports.

I gave up on sports radio a few months ago TBH. Right around the time I bailed on the radio I stopped driving to/from work too, so I really don't even get a chance to listen anyway. It is working out quite nicely so far.

I hope you are not surprised by that?

I have stated in the beginning that once the hype wore off for the new station that folks were not going to get anything much different than what they were getting from EEI.

Well, generally I don't bother when I'm at home, but I was in the car and the radio was on. Basketball talk or "Ray Lewis" usually has me turning it off toot sweet.

Funny, I recall Glen Ordway a couple of years back saying they didn't talk about hockey because the Bruins weren't relevant. Now the Bruins are a Cup champ and one of the best teams in the NHL, and the Celtics are in the crapper, but they STILL talk more about basketball than hockey.

I said from day 1 Felger was still using the Ordway play book. It was just better and without celebrity callers.

Now they have those. Now it is not better. Oh, and Mazz is horrendous. Shepard was more fun to listen to.

I used to love Mazz, but now he just seems to be Felgers sock puppet.

Mazz needs to stop yelling and laughing at his own bad jokes.

He may, but F&M don't really talk hockey anymore., and when they do, it's usually to beat the fourth line horse yet again. Felger would rather spend weeks on end disecting the Patriots loss.

Not going anywhere near 98.5 today. If F&M talk B's, it will be to trash them for last night. I'm depressed enough, and though a masochist, I'm not *that* much of a masochist.

Somewhere along the line Tony became unlistenable -- more or less yelling for four hours -- and that's too bad. He also "overcompensates," as Frasier Crane might opine. Lil' Squeaky appears bent on proving his manhood by throwing around silly tough guy rhetoric. Ick.

Tony Mazz genuinely hates Boston sports fans. Not hyperbole hate. Actual hate.

And he doesn't even pretend otherwise.

Also, his role on the show is easy to sum up: YARM.
