I almost felt sorry for Ordway having to preside over his own wake. It was funny to hear them drone on about how "They are all WEEI guys over there...." at the Sports Hub.

Reason: ot
He'll now have plenty of time to listen to the show and realize otherwise. Maybe if Fats didn't show his hate through open disdain for it, he'd still have a job.
I liked Ordway for most of his career, but he lost me forever with "Hockey Tawk".
Thought that over time, he became a bit of a characture of himself. And that he had actually made strides in that respect over the past few years with Holley, but too little, too late, I guess.

having a couple of ex eei hosts and a handful of young guys that might have done an internship at eei doesn't mean squat. The guys may have spent time at eei but in terms of radio philosophy and station imaging they are worlds apart.

Mazz has admitted he wasnt a big hockey fan before the cup run.
A perfect storm of the Bruins resurgence, the Red Sox fall, NBA lockout, and 98.5 having the Patriots games over the past 3 years finally took down Ordway. Screw him, He and EEI deserve this for the way they treated Bruins fans. I remember during the Stanley Cup parade, EEI was handing out signs that said "we got the cup" and things of that nature, I was disgusted by it.
WEEI has decided to part ways with Glenn Ordway, co-host of "The Big Show." Ordway made the announcement on-air Wednesday, Feb. 13 that his last day will be this Friday, Feb. 15. Michael Holley will serve as host of "The Big Show" for the foreseeable future and WEEI expects to make an announcement in the coming days about Michael's new co-host.
"Glenn and I have been together since day one. He is an icon in this business and he helped build WEEI into arguably the most successful sports station in history," said Jason Wolfe, VP of programming and operations for Entercom Boston. "I am so thankful to have been able to work alongside Glenn for the past 20-plus years and I hope that all Boston sports fans realize how important his contributions have been to this station, to the market and to this industry. He's a true professional and that was clearer than ever in his comments today."
Wow Ordway out at eei. I admit I haven't listened to then over the past few years. They started to lose me when they canned Pete but more so a few months later when the Wideman/Horton trade came down and they didn't even talk about it it was just "where should Wakefield go to the rotation or bullpen?" They lost me after that. A huge trade and nothing. Haggs was on that day as well.
It is weird, but I don't think Ordway's talent is a problem, I think it was the way it was used. The station never adjusted its direction, him included.
Wolfe should go before Ordway. Ordway would probably actually work as a mid-day guy at this point focusing on actual sports talk.
Thought it was Felger and tongue in cheek. What few know and may find shocking is that Ordway used to be on our local HS station doing sports when I was a kid and was always at Lynn arena at the hockey games. I remember him interviewing some of my buds on radio after games for the show. He also did the Bruins at one time in late 70's always surprised me how different TO Me he became

pretty sure february 15th is the same date they canned Dale two years ago.
Though I don't listen anymore it's going to be weird not having Ordway on the radio.
If Entercom is serious about competing with TSH, they need to clean house starting with Wolfe.
If I were them, I would oust D&C as well, and bring in some fresh talent in for the AM drive...and I would keep it about sports, and only sports. It would be nice if they filled that time zone w/ a couple of guys who are knowledgeable about hockey...throw a bone to the Bruin's audience.
I would also throw a lot of money at Matt Light, and see if he would be interested in co-hosting afternoons with Holly...I don't know if he'd do it, but I think he'd be great on the radio.
they were out of touch- I love the Bruins obviously and my folks had season tickets back in the early 50's....but we have Patriots seats, and I love the Red Sox as well.
I'm a complete sports fan who follows all these teams, goes to a lot of games, and KNEW the Bruins were the sleeping Giant. People loved the Bruins and hockey just not Jacobs and the way they were being run. Once that changed the fans came back new ones showed up and WEEI had thousands of fans who had every reason with the Sports HUB around to avoid their product.
I think Ordway is talented and a great interviewer but he was pretty arogant during the good days and now he's singing a differnent tune- to be honest Ordway got what he deserved to me.
funny thing is this media attitude started way before there was an EEI. I think you'll recognize this DKH.
Here it is, late 70's, and i'm just going up and down the radio dial and i come upon something called Calling All Sports with Upton Bell and Bob Lobel and i think, what's this, an extended sports update? Then i realize, the whole show is about sports. They are talking about sports...awesome!! I thought, can't wait until they start talking about the B's (late 70's, multiple deep runs in the playoffs, lunch pail gang, too many men, lotta shyte going on) and so i waited...and waited...and waited...and waited some more...waited all the way to the sports hub. This crap was going on for decades.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is up with our media that it takes a carpet bagging cheesehead to realize this is a hockey town and act accordingly?

So you never tuned into the Sport Huddle with Eddie Andelman back in the day? That was on before Calling All Sports, IICRC. Granted they didn't talk much Bruins either, but Eddie was always honest about hockey being to hard to handicap for betting purposes, which is why he didn't follow it that closely...
I'm liberated from the idiots on Boston sports radio. I used to be a slave to eei and the
Sportshub. Made the switch to Sirius and NHL network radio blows them away. Just heard a great interview with Ken Holland. Actual hockey talk, go figure. I'm a big fan of Hair Nation too

are you kidding me? Sunday nights on HDH from 6-10, NEVER missed it. Loved Bruce and the Benchwarmers. I mentioned CAS because that was the 1st time i ever discovered sports talk radio, and was disappointed by it regarding B's coverage ever since.

Hair Nation was the only reason I kept Sirius as long as I did haha.

The NHL Network is the only thing I really miss about not having XM anymore.
If Ordway's out - hell, why not blow the whole thing out of the water. I think Holly works and maybe Merloni - but there's virtually nothing else there worth holding on to.
