I blame the owners. They got King Agamemnon's tribute to Achilles in the last lockout and are somehow still demanding more.

I blame the fans. If we didn't do something wrong, why are we being punished?

Definitely both sides. They negotiate with the tactics of a child.

Owners fault.

- Got everything they wanted last CBA
- Talked of a lockout before NHLPA even offered their first counter-proposal
- Players are willing to play during negotiations, woners refuse
- Don't want to honour contracts that they approved and even fought for

I blame the players more. Some owners are losing money annually, where as any season a player cashes a paycheck they are winning, and they are getting paid lots of money. I know a lot of the owners are rich, but if you love the game and bought a hockey team and are losing tens of millions of dollars a year, something needs to be fixed. Obviously not all owners are in the red with their team, but it only takes a couple owners $10mil+ in the red to make the average players making $1mil+/yr look like dicks.

Players fault... they get to play a game they love and a re squabbling about getting 6 mil a year instead of 8...

Owners are going to win, they always do... time for players to suck it up and just take the loss and get back to the game

Also, owners set up the entire infrastructure to allow us to watch games for a fairly cheap rate, players just show up and do what they're told.. time to stop pretending to be business people and just play the game...

You realize owners don't actually lose money right? These are (fairly) intelligent, (ferociously) greedy billionaires. If they were actually losing money from a business, then they would not be part of the business.

The accounting and the actual cash flow are 2 very different things. The main point of owning a sports franchise is to hide crazy amounts of money.

Having said that, I'm not very pleased with anyone in this situation. But from my perspective, the owners are quite clearly being greedier than the players.

Both sides, but if someone said "Pick a side or die" I'd go players.

They are losing money whether you decide to acknowledge it or not:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4626073 Blue Jackets
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4129484 Islanders
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stor...s-roundup.html Coyotes
At minimum I know the Hurricanes, Predators, and Panthers were noticably in the red too yearly, but I can't find numbers easily.

And there are other sources out there if you are still in disbelief. Yes, they are rich, but losing tens of millions of dollars is really bad. Not all US hockey teams make money.

We have a lockout thread on the NHL Forum. We do not need auxiliary threads.
