Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Niagara IceDogs’ forward Brett Ritchie is the OHL Player of the Week after scoring 10 goals and three assists for 13 points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-7 for the week ending November 4.
Ritchie tied a pair of single-game franchise records and led the IceDogs to three straight wins last week beginning with a 2-0 victory over the Kitchener Rangers where he scored a goal and an assist. On Saturday night he became the seventh player in franchise history to record six points in a game when he netted four and added two assists as first star of a 9-4 win over the Guelph Storm. He followed up that performance with a five-goal game Sunday as first star of a 6-4 win over the Peterborough Petes. Ritchie’s five-goal effort marked just the second time an IceDog scored five times matching teammate Ryan Strome who accomplished the feat last season, but marks the first time any IceDog player has scored back-to-back hat-tricks.… read more
Yeah that seems to be the most common comparison. And frankly, if he turns into the Neal that we saw here(a streaky 50-60 point scorer), we should be happy. Definitely shouldnt expect him to turn into the 40 goal Neal from last season.
Oh year, and Ritchie will be on the NHL network tonight in about 20 minutes.
He looked alot like Neal tonight. All over the place, flashes a great shot, showed a desire to hit hard and hit often.
He looked like Neal before Neal go suspended and after Neal got traded to Pitt.
Chiasson is often to a bit of a slow start that's been highlight by some mysterious illness. Still ... he and Ritchie are two exciting prospects. I'd say they were similar, but Chiasson is probably a better playmaker while Ritchie has a better shot.
Nice to see some big bodies making their way up the prospect ranks.

The way he played out there tonight I could definitely see him having an issue with suspensions.
So are we assuming Chiasson is still ill or has there been an update?

Happy? I expect Stars fans to turn on him if he doesn't score 80 by his 3rd season.
I watched this kid play last Sunday and he has some serious size and skill. The Stars will love having this kid play for him one day. He shouldnt even be playing in the OHL he is too talented for that leauge. Having Strome play with him sure helps but this kid has some serious potential.
Having Ritchie and Faksa sure is nice. I have had the privilage of watching Faksa play a couple times and he looks pretty promising as well. Now if they draft a good offensive defense man as well than we should be alright a few years down the road.
