It's actually bad for us long term because we lose the Stanley Cup momentum. The fringe fans are what generate the real revenue and we lost most of them with the lockout. Could have sold a lot more tickets than usual with a season this year. That idea's gone now.
Bad for a fan standpoint but for the team maybe it's good. Didn't Semin only sign a one year deal with Carolina? We can start up the Semin hype train again hahaha

I really don't think he was interested enough in Semin. We could have signed him for that if we wanted to. Our payroll probably would have still been the same as last season, even with Kovy making $11 million. Marty's $700k a year pay cut, Parise's $6 million gone. Maybe it would have come out to a little more.
Maybe it was for the best. Semin has been a healthy scratch in the KHL I've read.

There's no way losing the season is good for the Devils. You'd have Marty and Moose coming back at 40+ having been off a year, you'd have to replace more FA's to be (it's enough of a struggle just filling the spots of ZP and Poni as is) and yeah off-ice it is a total disaster with fan interest.
Ya, I think it is Leach. Really no reason to change it now.

I'd rather not.
Guys like Jagr and I believe Whitney will be available, however.

I`d still give it a shot. There will be bigger fish available on the market. That instantly means we could get him for less, all things considered.
Not sure how Jagr feels, but he played with both Zidla and Plekanec in Kladno this season. While I doubt Bergevin wants him, I wouldn`t be surprised if he did. From a marketing perspective at least. That said, who knows what his plans are. He went after a combination of a top6 spot and money when he signed with Philly. With Dallas he chose the same. As for Whitney, it really seems like he wants to stay in the South. Carolina, Arizona, now Texas.

Probably because Poni didn't want to play here or really wanted to play in Winnipeg. Real life isn't like video games, you can't just sign anyone you want, they sometimes have wants that you can't fulfill no matter what money you might offer them.

This could be true, as could the TMZ thing with Lou wanting to make an example out of someone could too. Though I believe we lost him in the Parise sweepstakes. I think if we made an offer before July 1st he would have stayed. Maybe had he stayed on the market an extra day we would have taken him back. We signed Marty, and Moose on the 2nd, and Salvador on the 3rd I think if I remember correctly. I think Lou was waiting for his final offer to Parise before signing them.
That was a mess last July 1st, and Lou really cannot let that happen again. Try to sign everybody before the 1st. If they don't wanna stay, then that's not Lou's fault, but we can't have another July 1st like last year with Marty going to UFA, and all that other mess. Don't let Patty go to UFA either for the love of god!
I'd love to get Corrente the hell out of here. Make some room for Merrill, or other guys who might be on Albany next year. That deal is hardly fair. Then again Joe whoever his name was, and the 3rd rounder or whatever it was, turned out to be for free basically.
Poni signed with Winnipeg cause he was friends with Antropov. He may have been open to returning to the Devils, but I think that factored into why he went to Winnipeg particularly. Someone said after he got there that he said he was afraid of our financial problems here. That makes no sense as we signed deals worth more, and for more years this Summer. And don't forget he only got a ONE year deal anyway. It's not like he signed some multi year up there in Winnipeg.

I remembered his name was Joe, that's it! I think Corrente would be on par with him at the very least. Should have sent Corrente to Carolina, and told them ''Here take back your trash draft pick we got stuck with!''
I wouldn't mind bringing Poni back this year in a trade if we can get him for cheap again! Career AHL player + higher round pick.
That would be so funny - play 30 games with Winnipeg, get traded back to NJ. I'm not sure how active the trade deadline will be this year though, with the short season just about every team will really be in it.

LA, and Phoenix weren't even in a playoff spot around the 48/50 game mark last year. Toronto actually was in our conference, with Washington in like 10th. I've always said if you're in 10th at the deadline which is like 62 games left, your chances are tough. At a 48 game mark though not so much.
