#1: People bashing the argo's attendance...i was at the playoff game against the eskimos and i was wondering why the upper level was closed off??, i was thinking the argo's were too cheap to leave it open and pay for concessions or something, also because of this, the lowest ticket price was something like $60-70ish..im not sure who the idiot that was responsible for this but why not open up the upper bowl and sell some economical tickets for $25.00? i bet there is 1000's of more people that would have went, the montreal eastern finals were selling tickets for $25.00 in the upper level..i blame poor decision making upstairs for the low attendance
This is a big problem with almost every Toronto team with the exception of the Blue Jays.
If you listened to Tom Anselmi over the last few years, while MLSE was jacking up ticket prices for the pathetic TFC (and before this years capitulation and slashing prices), they talked alot about how ticket prices aren't set by the quality of the product, but rather the market in general. i.e., don't compare prices to other teams in that particular league, compare them to other teams in Toronto. Basically, it is the belief (or more accurately, hope) of Toronto sports execs that, regardless of the league, their tickets should be priced in relation to the Maple Leafs, not the Eskimos or DC United.
This absolutely kills franchises that are trying to establish themselves. People won't spend $100 for a pair of tickets to a sporting event they are only marginally interested in. It is like Toronto execs don't subscribe to the theory of "bums in seats". They would rather charge twice as much for a half full building as opposed to charging half as much for a full one.
It is like they are terrified that Toronto sports fans will eventually realize they're being ripped off if prices dip too low.
This is a big reason why I take such glee in the massive failure that is/was the Bills in Toronto Series. Those prices were worse than a joke, they were a slap in the face. I don't care what the prices are, or if someone offered me a pair of free tickets, I would refuse to go simply on principle.
People bash Toronto for not supporting the CFL, but come on.. the city has outgrown the league. There are still a lot of older people who watch the CFL so the argos will be around for at least a little longer. But once these old extremely patriotic/xenophobic peeps are gone there will be little generation x/y fans to pick from. I mean the older ones don't really make it to the game but will probably watch on TV (this is why the tv ratings are decent).
Toronto has more selection when it comes to sports. No other city can relate, thus why we get negative feedback. It's far from the number 2 game in Toronto.
You do realize that the average life expectancy in Canada is 80 yrs old right? Generation x/yers are around 40-50 years old now. So your still going to have to wait for another 30-40 years before your comment takes place, and by then you'll be "old" and I think that you may be confused to the definition of xenophobic.
I can't imagine how much NBA players would avoid playing in Montreal. They'd hear French and run.

Best thing Montreal did was put the Al's at McGill, fantastic place to watch a game.

Agreed. Mcgill stadium is just fantastic for the CFL. It's too bad, The Argos were going to join TFC in the stadium by the EX but got a sweetheart deal with Rogers and stayed in the Rogers Centre. It feels so dead in there when it's half filled.

For me the best part of McGill is the walk there from the Metro. The streets are closed off and everyone is heading to the same place. It helps build up the game, similar to tailgating.
It would be tough to replicate that in Toronto.
I am football obsessed. I don't discriminate, I'll watch NFL, CFL, in addition to random + obscure NCAA and CIS games. The best thing about the Argos having success is how much it pisses off the rest of Canada, hopefully they can get the Grey Cup.
It'll be amusing to see all the conspiracy theories thrown around afterwards about how it was fixed w/ the Ray trade and us hosting the final etc..

That's a good point. They also have buses bringing people to the stadium. It does really feel like a football atmosphere at a big game.

And as for tv ratings in southern ontario, argos are far above the raptors and tfc and in canada are above every sport aside from the leafs.

CFL is gate driven. TV ratings are nice, but they aren't even that much of revenues. People need to go to games. Plus Toronto has 6.5 million to Montreals 4 and Vancouvers 2.5 million. That's huge. everyone likes different things.

It's already happened lol. Conspiracy theories were thrown out the day after the Ray trade. Look, if you're GM is Eric Tillman, you should know that anything is possible..even the trading of a future hall of famer in Ricky Ray.
in terms of where they are right now montreal is a successful cfl team, making money and consistently fielding a good team
i know they had a bad history
but they did get the als back and not the expos

The Expos had a consistent 30 plus year history. Montreal was actually the worst CFL market in the entire league. Montreal was also campaigning for the NFL in 1988. Their mayor.
