It is still a mistake to sing the anthem wrong. There is ONE ENGLISH VERSION. Why people think it is okay to change anthems I will never understand.
The anthem has not always been the same. Revisions have been made to it throughout its history. In fact, in the anthem's early history there were no references to religion. There was a bill introduced in 2002 to make further changes to the anthem. Then, in 2010, the question of gender neutrality arose in parliament in regards to the anthem.
Burton is one of the forefathers of the Canadian music industry. His lyrical changes are still faithful to the anthem's earliest versions. He has always sung the anthem this way, so it should not have been a surprise.
In 1990, Toronto City Council actually voted in favor of suggesting that the federal government change the line "our home and native land" to "our home and cherished land." The anthem is not immune from modification.

Hahaha..was a pretty bad butchering of Oh Canada by Mr.Guess Who. Agreed.....The anthem should be sung the way it was written. No room for artistic licence. Personally I could do without anthems at sporting events unless they are international competitions like the World Cup, Olympics etc....
I could do without them in all settings. It is stupid. If you have to do it at a medal ceremony than I could be okay with that I guess. I hate singing it before games though.
