CCM CL Shoulder Pads: Anyone else think they run big?

I picked these up a few weeks ago and love the weight and breathability, but they seem to run big. I like my stuff tighter and always wear a medium in shoulder pads (38-40 in chest). Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe it's just me.

Weren't you the one that was all 'ehhh' on them? There was an argument either here or on MSH but w/e.

They don't run big, but what I'm guessing you're feeling is that they're so mobile and light that they move around too much. The segmented vest-like design also plays a big role in that. You can even argue that they run smaller since they're shorter than other pads.

I think you nailed it. I tried them on, they fit great but when I started playing I noticed they move around and when I'm on the bench they bunch up. I've tried tightening the velcro on the sides but that seems to make it worse. When I'm playing I don't notice them, the breathability is awesome and they don't retain sweat so I guess I'll either have to deal with the minor issues or I might become a hockey equipment tailor with a pair of scissors and make some minor adjustments. I think once they're broken in and well used they will be an amazing pad for the long term. Right now I'm ehhh on them too though.

I don't think they'll break in anymore because they're already so mobile. That was the whole point of the design.

I've done some tests on impacts. You really have to hit properly and on the shoulder cap for this pad to really protect you. Crashing into the boards sideways/shoulder-first for example will lead to the pad 'collapsing' into itself in which the shoulder cap needs to be the main point of contact. Not very impressed. The impact doesn't distribute well.

I'm 6 feet tall wearing a large and I feel like they come down too far. I think if they were shorter it wouldn't bunch up when I sit on the bench. The fact that there is really no fabric to break in worries me that they will just remain like this for the life of the product but I'll probably put them in the wash machine anyway to soften everything up. Maybe I need a medium? Or maybe I'm being a gear ***** and should just make due with what I have.

Although I wouldn't recommend putting them through any machine, let us know how that goes?

If anything I'd put them in a convection oven or a sauna to 'break' them in.

I have a washing machine that doesn't have a tumbler in the middle so it just gets sprayed and soaked in water. Comes in handy when you don't like stiff hockey equipment.

That was me! Some of my concerns were a lack of collarbone protection since I was coming back from a bad break. It's been 7 months so decided to give them a try.

My main issue is that I have a gap from top of shoulder to bottom of the pad. I can put my hand under it and the pads feel loose.

Not trying to start an argument but the marketing feature " they don't absorb water" is flawed. All that water ends up in your pants, shins, and skates

I'm still undecided on these. My Reebok 7k mediums just fit so darn perfect and have better protection

These pads are not supposed to fit tight, so you can very well slid a hand under by design. Just gotta make sure they're flush still.

Haha the moisture wicking is mostly the same for most apparel, like UnderArmor stuff. While it make wick it away, it wicks DOWN...soaking your underwear lol.

Tried the 9K?

I bought a size large in the store after trying them on. Great fit. After the first game I realized that they do shift around because of their great mobility and thus seem like too big of a bad. I've just gotten used to it. In hindsight, I probably would have been best getting a Medium.
