Neal for sure.

Both are good goal scorers, but Neal brings more outside of that.

Kessel...I'm not saying Neal is bad, but I wonder if he would be a 40 goal scorer without Crosby/Malkin centering him. Try imagining Neals production with Bozak/Grabovski and Kessels production with Crosby/Malkin and then judge. IMO Kessel took this one last season and will take it this season again and this is coming from someone who likes Neal and hates the Leafs as a whole.

Neal... 40 goal scorer last year and better defensively.

Neal is great when he has an elite centre setting him up. He is phenomenal at getting setup for the pass after the pass and has a fantastic shot.

BUT, Kessel doesn't need a top of the line centre setting him up to score goals, so it's Kessel.

Kessel. I'd take Neal if Malkin came with him.

I think this sums it up perfectly.
Nikolai Kulemin was on pace to be a 35g scorer in the KHL when he was with Malkin too. I can only imagine he would have been a 40+ goal scorer if he got PP time with Crosby, Malkin and Letang.

Phil Kessel >> James Neal

Kessel fairly easily, produces the same minus an Art Ross/Hart trophy caliber center.

I am wondering how many goals he would score without Malkin as well, but there is no doubt that Neal brings a lot more to his team besides just goalscoring and I bet Neal would still score 30.

I also think that a 30 goal Neal is better than a 35 goal Kessel.

This is Kessel without a doubt.

James Neal playing with Evgeni Malkin - 40 goals 81 points
Phil Kessel playing with Tyler Bozak - 37 goals 82 points

i'm tired of hearing all this stuff about Kessel is terrible defensively. This type of stuff follows him around for years when people don't realize that players develop over time. Neal can hit, but better defensively is an exaggeration.

Kessel easily.

People look at Kessel and think he's just a goal scorer. See him play once and see the passes this guy can make.

Insane vision.

Without Malkin, Neal is a 25G-30A ~55 point guy.

Neal's a great player but he's also in a very fortunate situation.

Kessel easily.

Look at Neal stats when he was in Dallas. 50-55 points guy (which is obviously good) but Kessel is PPG player during the season and PO and like many said with Malkin, Crosby and Letang on PP.... ouch

Yeah, Kessel for me.

Kessel is a lot more of an explosive player and is the type of player that doesn't need good linemates to get it done. Neal is good and I don't think all the credit should go to Malkin, he was scoring at close to a 30 goal pace on the Stars as a 20-22 year old so it's not really that unrealistic to think he could score 40 without Malkin in his prime years. I just find Kessel to be the more noticeable player on the ice.

Stop with what? Posting statistics? Check the khl website if you'd really like. Neal is a 60 point guy playing with Malkin. Neal is a good goal scorer, but Kessel is just much better than he is.

You give me regular PP time with Crosby, Malkin and Letang I'd probably be a 20-30 goal scorer

Man, it sure is a wonder that Ruslan Fedotenko only scored 27 goals in 145 games as a Penguin considering he played with Malkin.

Or that Max Talbot only tallied 52 in 388 games as a Penguin spending a lot of time with Malkin.

Or that Crosby has never had a winger score more than 25 goals with him.

If Malkin was able to take that no talent hack in James Neal and give him 40 goals and 41 assists just by shooting the puck off of Neal's stick or banking it off of Neal's skates and right back to himself, imagine what he could do with something like Kessel. Oh man.

Give me Neal.

If Kessel got to play with Crosby and Malkin he's score 50 easily.

If Pittsburg offered us Neal for Kessel, I'd be demanding we get something extra that's for sure. We are talking about Malkin in a year where he was the NHL's most valuable player.

Btw, I didn't know you considered Talbot and Fedotenko on the same level as Neal.

They played with Malkin. That's all it takes to become a 40 goal, PPG player, according to you folks

Neal is good enough player to smooch off Malkin. Also called chemistry or something.
