I would take Simmonds all things considered but when it comes to their ability to play rough, agitate the other team and scrap Clarkson has the edge.

I just think going forward the edge Simmonds has in other apsects is higher

Simmonds may have more of an upside.

I think some people sell Clarkson way too short. I'm not sure he'll hit 30 goals again, but he does have the ability to be a perennial 20 goal guy, or maybe closer to 25. He scored 17 goals in 08/09 playing on a 4th line for half the season, and some PP time. Now he had great 4th linemates like an older Bobby Holik, but still pretty good.

09/10 he was on pace for 20 goals, but I think he scored 12 in 50 games. He was injured for a couple months with a broken leg that season.

10/11 forget about it. Kovy, and Elias were the only guys to score at least 20 or more goals. Only 4 or 5 guys eclipsed 30 points that season on our team.

Idk about that...they both do their job well against any team not just rivals and I never seen Simmonds do anything worse than Clarkson.

I really have no idea what you are talking about here. Simmonds isn't a dirty player.

Devils fan and Simmonds is better than Clarkson and younger. Simmond's is a lot better skater, if I had to pick one, it would be Simmonds, but I'm perfectly fine with Clarkson as well.

I get the feeling that clarkson can play his role better. Simmonds was suffering a little from "offensive player-itis" at the end of his tenure in la. Though he went on to score 30g i guess

There have definitely been times where Clarkson has tried to get too fancy and become ineffective, and we just want to yell at him to hit somebody. But for the most part he plays his role well. He's one of those rare players that usually ends up with 20 goals and 10 fights in a season.

My favorite Clarkson down moment was a preseason game on the Island last year. He had a terrible shift and then coughed the puck up on a semi breakaway, he got mad and broke his stick, threw the stick on the ice and then stepped on both pieces causing him to do a split then proceeded to tumble onto his face. Too bad it wasnt televised because it was the funniest thing I ever saw. Gotta love Clarky.

I went with Clarkson, just because I think Simmonds is benefiting a bit more from his environment. But I didn't think of the age difference 'till reading other replies.

Very close call.

Yep. If Clarkson did something like the Hartnell Down charity, we'd wipe out cancer in a week's worth of Devils games.

Another Devils fan voting Simmonds. Younger, and has the potential to be more consistent offensively in my opinion. Clarkie is one of my favorites, though, nicest guy in the world off the ice.

Clarkson is almost 5 years older and shooting a very sustainable 18% right now.

The answer was Simmonds before, and Simmonds is still the answer.

No disrespect to Clarkson, but I'd take Simmonds over Clarkson going forward quite easily.

I am on the fence on this one. Due to the age factor I was leaning towards Simmonds when I made this but after seeing that last year wasnt a fluke and in fact Clarkson is looking even better and becoming a much smarter player I am now thinking Clarkson. Just wanted to see what everyone else thinks. I also dont see Clarkson slowing down a whole lot, he scores in many different ways.

Maybe I should have made this poll for the next 3 seasons. So age wouldnt be a factor.
