Hi everyone,

Given the Jackets current D-corp and their promising young blue liners (John Moore and Tim Erixon are developing really well in this years competitive AHL, and Ryan Murray will play his way onto the team sooner rather than later) it looks like Wiz is likely to become the odd man out on the back end. So I want to get a feel as to what his value would be. I know he has a rough contract that lowers his value a bit but on the right team he could really be a difference maker.

Jackets would likely be looking for top six forwards, or forward prospects and draft picks.

As a Canucks fan I would be interested, we could use a right-side Ehrhoff replacement.

What would you be interested in from us? How would Schroeder, Raymond, and a 2nd sound?

His contract is an albatross. The Sens need D though.

Maybe Colin Greening and 3rd/2nd?

Isles would not take on that contract, even for that price. The progression of Donovan gives us no reason to look for a veteran offensive defenseman, especially one with the contract of Wiz.

Plus, the injury to Murray probably keeps Wiz in Columbus for the greater part of his contract.

With his contract it's gonna be hard to find a buyer, especially when the CBA gets signed and the cap comes down.

He's doesn't have the ideal tools for the Oilers, but is still an upgrade, so if the price is right (ie, cheap), I'd take him on.

He priced himself out of having value.

He went for the big paycheck instead of a competitive team and it looks like he's stuck there.

Yeah. If CBJ can dump that contract they should be all over it.

This doesn't really answer your question, but I've thought for a while now that due to that logjam in the top 4 it might make sense to trade Murray for a team in need of a young, stud LD. Duchene for Murray could make sense for both sides IMO.

You mean our lone RH Puck moving D? No thanks, he's not going anywhere for a while unless Savard or Goloubef develop his puck moving abilities.

His contract isn't good, but it isn't albatross either. Overpaid obviously.

There are many teams that aren't close to the salary cap and his salary will be less than cap hit. Teams should be interested.

That being said, why does Columbus get rid of Johnson-Wizniewski pairing, which seemed to work great last year?

If you want a value, a top six forward that is a bit less overpaid than Wiz with some term on his contract. #2-3 RD with premier offensive ability don't grow on trees.

Lol...yeah no.

Not everyone is in love with Ryan Murray. I believe he'll be a solid top-4 guy but I see his eventual upside comparable to that of a guy like Roman Hamrlik or Alex Goligoski. The Niedermayer comparisons are off-base, in my opinion.

They'd be jumping if he had a Hamerlik type career.

And if he did. , Colorado would do that trade in a second.

Wiz is fine. He's doing well in CBJ when he has played.

Yeah right, hey I like Hamrlik just fine but he's never at any point in his career been confused with a franchise d-man or even a bona-fide top pairing guy. He's been a very good top-4 guy though.

Still, with Murray having not proved anything yet, the Avs turn it down quite easily. (see all the same arguments as with Duchene for Morgan Rielly thread from a few weeks ago)

I'll send you Setoguchi or Bouchard + Stoner + 2nd for Wiz to Minnesota. Only problem is his painful contract, and Minnesota is going to be spending again soon.

Columbus takes that and runs, imo.

If Gillis didn't want to pay Ehrhoff more than $4.6 million, I fail to see why he would want to acquiring another offensive defenseman who makes $900K more - especially since he'd have to give up assets to get Wiz.

3 time all stars aren't top pairing guys? You do realize that a top pairing guy doesn't mean a Hall of Famer, right? He was a top pair d-man for much of his career.
