Team looks to be promising in 14-15.

13-14 may be a bit tough, the group will be really young.

Just drove through NIU. It's amazing how much better the campuses of the schools like Indiana and U of I are and how they blow them out of the water. All about the big schools. I never want to be bored.

Yeah, I've never actually been through DeKalb, but from everything I've heard from friends and family who went there is that's it's incredibly dull.

I've spent a few weekends there... Parties on the weekend were pretty solid, but not somewhere I'd prefer to be. There was at least one bar that had a party shuttle that would drive around the apartments most students would stay at, and shuttle them to the bar while letting you bring open containers on the bus.

heh, a friend of mine is a commuter student at NIU right now and will be moving to DeKalb for the final year and a half of her time at school, so I'll have to be sure to mention that everyone finds her future home boring.

Got my degree at Northern, yeah, it doesn't have that away from home feel. I found that out in my first year when my roommate said "Gotta go home for the weekend, Dad needs me to mow the lawn."

The fraternities and the artsy crowd were really the only ones who had serious parties.

Depends on where you go. At Purdue, it's either you're in one, you know people in them, or you don't have fun.

Yeah, different everywhere.

IU is a good mix of both. Lots of douchey big houses, sure. But I was in an off campus fraternity with all really good guys and had a lot of GDI friends.

Just got back from my school's three day long retreat. So amazing and plus I learned I'm going to college too. Go blue.

Muck Fichigan.

But seriously, congratulations. Actually briefly looked into Michigan, but I decided that the price was too rich for my blood. If you have scholarships lined up or money off due to relatives that went there, the more power to you. Ann Arbor's a w....nevermind.

Thanks for the tough love. I'm kinda weird because I love UMich and ND which I know is not normal whatsoever. ND is my dream school though and my letter may or may not be coming tomorrow so I'm a little nervous about that. Thanks though!

I typically root for ND once a year, when they play Michigan.

**** them.

Congrats though.

So, jrc, if you are into doing engineering, you have to be looking at U of I, right?

It's just a really satisfying moment. I feel like just letting it out. Ever since I was younger, I'd watch Illini games. Though this is not about sports, I got attached to U of I through sports, especially once the 2005 team came along. When I was growing up and I heard "Well, when you're in college someday", I always pictured myself in Champaign. I worked hard, got good grades, kept my GPA and class rank extremely high, and got rewarded in the end. It's under three hours from home, too. Tonight, I went out with my Illini hat and I thought to myself "This just feels right". Once I get through the last semester and change of high school (bleh), I will meet a lot of new people, including women, professors, and people through internships that will help me get a lot of good experiences. I'm ready to do this ****ing thing.

Congrats to both of y'all

And while were talking about college I got rejected from a program I was told I was the perfect candidate and what they were looking for because even though I exceed the required sat act scores I dont have a 4.1 gpa and I'm not in the top 10. Looks like I'm taking an off year.

You don't have to go to a big university college to get a degree that is completely useful. I went to Northern Illinois, and though I was a smart kid, I didn't have AMAZING credentials and didn't try very hard in high school. Got a 25 on my ACT and had like a 3.2 GPA in high school. I went to a community college for my first 2 years because my parents raised me to be very tight with my money. I'm glad I did because I have so much less student debt right now than I would if I went away to a 4-year school immediately. Paid my way through my first 2 years, and then my first semester I paid for at NIU as well. People can complain and say it's boring all they want, but honestly if you're living on your own at a 4-year school, unless you got some rich parents who will send you money, you're not going to have money anyways, so who cares where you are.

I'd recommend NIU if they have your major. Don't get caught up with the "I have to go to a big 4-year school straight out of high school crowd" if you don't want to, it doesn't have to be for everyone. I turned out just fine and went to community college and then NIU. Graduated with my bachelor's in computer science and currently work at a big auto manufacturer in the area as a quality engineer (not really part of my major, but they wanted someone good with excel and formulas and whatnot). I make pretty good money, especially for just being out of college in the last year and a half.

I'm not going to a big school at all. My current high school has more students than commerce has living on campus. 29 act and 1940 on my sat. 3.64 GPA. Top 40% of my class.
