Haha,

That backhand move is just so money. Everyone knows it's coming and it's usually in the back of the net.

Hopefully Frans won't be there too long.

Franzie should work on some of his weaknesses while he's in Finland. Maybe he can be the team's enforcer!

Still my favorite Islander, well, favorite current Islander that plays every night.

I can't wait until he gets an explosive winger to work with and two guys who play better defense. Then it will really give him a chance to show his playmaking ability and rack up some points. It will put all the "not a number 2 center" peeps out to pasture.

Anyone who says he isn't capable of being/staying a 2C is out of their mind IMO. I understand that people think he's better suited to be a 3C, and I get the argument, but this guy is a workhorse with a solid 2 way game.

Frans is my favorite Islander too I wanted to get his jersey last season but ended up not pulling the trigger because I wasn't sure he'd re-sign or not (I learned my lesson with getting a Bergenheim jersey).

Frans Nielsen certainly knows how to work from the bottom and up. First danish to NHL and now starting with the bottom-team in the SM-liiga. Will be very interesting to follow if the danish NHL trio (Nielsen, Bødker, Larsen) can turn the team around. Frans' brother Simon is a goalie in Lukko and could certainly need some better defence around him: 14-27 goal difference and 4 points in 7 games.

Frans is one of my Fav players in the entire NHL. I love what he brings each and every shift out there. However i do see him as a nice solid 3rd line Center. I think at best he is a POOR mans Second line center. His roll fits well as a 3rd line guy IMO. 2nd line might be a bit much. However there is nothing wrong with a splash of him being a second line as a fill in type of roll. I dont think he should be on a second line for any extended time frame.

2nd line center.....DOES HE MAKE THE LINE BETTER? If you have scoring on both wings, the anser is, without hesitation, YES! But we have many conditioned to think the second line center is a scoring threat (like Peca) and not a defensive bridge.

If Strome can in the spot, it's his, and we can end the half decade long debate on what Nielson is because someone will finally have pushed him to line three rather than see that he be relegated to line 3 because it works better on X-Box.

Great start for Frans Nielsen and the fellow danes for Rauman Lukko in the SM-liiga. The team won 4-1 against Pelicans with the three danish NHL'ers playing in the third line (and Frans' brother in goal), but got a lot of responsibility on the PP.
Frans Nielsen got 2 assists, both on PP.
Philip Larsen with 1 goal (on PP assisted by Frans) and 1 assist (SH)
Mikkel Bødker with 1 goal (on PP assisted by Frans' backhand).
Simon Nielsen saved 20 of 21 shots.

Match highlights: (Lukko in yellow and Frans number 51)

Frans Nielsen and the fellow danes have had less luck the last two matches. A loss 2-1 to JYP and an overtime loss to Jokerit (3-2) due to a major goalie blunder by Petri Vehanen.

So far the 3 danes have 3 points each in 3 matches.
Mikkel Bødker: 3G 0A (+2)
Philip Larsen: 1G 2A (0)
Frans Nielsen: 0G 3A (+2)
(Basically all of Lukko's players are in - and +2 is team leading).
Highlights from Jokerit (blue)-Lukko (yellow). Frans Nielsen was on ice on both Lukko's goals and assisted Bødker's 1-0 goal (that pass was lucky to get through to Bødker). Second goal is scored on a return puck from a Larsen shot.

Frans Nielsen update.

After 6 games Frans Nielsen with Mikkel Bødker and Philip Larsen continue to make Lukko climb the SM-liiga. Now 11'th out of 14 teams.
Frans Nielsen have 0G 6A in 6 games and +5 statistics.
Mikkel Bødker haws 5G 0A in 6 games and +4 statistics
Philip Larsen 1G 4A in 6 games and +4 statistics.

Win last night over TPS with 3-2.
Frans Nielsen pass to Bødker goal (Lukko's second goal, Lukko in blue). 4 out of 5 Bødker goal has been from Frans Nielsen.

Frans Nielsen update:

It seems that Frans Nielsen excells in his passing game, but still havent found the net even in the shootouts. His patented backhand is being read by finnish goalies, so far less judgement than we are used to. So far he has 2 missed backhands out of 2 in shootouts!

Tonights game against HPK was a 3-2 shootout loss. Frans assisted both Lukko's goals scored by fellow danes Philip Larsen and Mikkel Bødker. The last effort is really nice! But highlight ends with his shootout miss.
He is currently 0G 12A in 13 games with a +4 statistics.

Last nights game (Lukko in yellow):

Thanks for the update. I was trying to watch the highlights but it wouldn't play and just saying a lot of stuff in finnish I obviously can't figure out. Anyway, 0-2 is not that big of a deal on shootouts and maybe he just lifted the puck over the net those two times. Was it an actual save or did he just miss?

You're welcome. Both missed shootouts have been goalie saves...the second one (end this vid) is a pretty good one. But the link should work if you press on the screen and then wait for the commercial to be over.

Otherwise maybe it blocked for some countries and open to other?

stats only analysis:

He's got 1-14-15pts in 18 games, tied with Rich Peverley (42nd in league scoring)

He's slightly behind players like Filppula, Kyle Turris in points. Other notables (NHL) in that league are Erik Karlsson (18pts - 21g), our very own Joensuu with 24pts in 20g (who's out 2mo with an injured hand).

He's missing shootout goals probably because he gets more press coverage in that part of the world than he does here. Everyone in Europe knows his backhand move.

waka waka

Frans Nielsen is taking tons of defensive responsibility for Lukko as he does for the Islanders. He has great chemistry with (coyotes) Mikkel Bødker and have assisted him and (stars) Philip Larsen a lot. But for some reason goals eludes him...his scoring % is 1,6 while it was 12,8% in NHL last year. Maybe he just need to return to NHL to score again...you know these finnish goalies are tough to get by and have studied his backhand...lol

Frans Nielsen with 1G and 1A tonight in a 2-4 loss. So he has 2G 15A now in 19 games and a +8 statistics.
