What would it take to get Halak from St.Louis ? I know everyone is talking Luongo but I think it would make more sense, and assets, to make a push for Halak. For the price being suggest for Luongo , I'd rather go the extra mile and acquire a guy that can backstop this team for awhile.

Realistically speaking ..

Untouchable Roster players: Kessel,JVR,Phaneuf,Rielly

Touchable(if the price was right, so in this case) Lupul,Reimer,Gardiner, Grabovski, Kulemin,Liles,Gunnarsson

Tradable players: Kadri,Colborne,McArthur,Connolly,Komisarek,Lombard i,Bozak,McClement,Liles,Frattin

Prospects: Ryan,D'Amigo,Percy,Biggs,Ross,McKegg,Blacker,Ashto n,Finn,Leivo

*Plus picks 1st2013 , 2nd 2013 , 3rd 2013

What would it realistically take? Toronto will likely have to overpay. Discuss.

I don`t think any realistic trade will happen since St. Louis seems to like Halak a lot more than Elliott and see him as their starter for many years.... Why do you have JVR as an untouchable, but Rielly is tradeable? Doesn't seem right

I'd love Halak if something like Riemer + Kadri/colbourne + prospect + 2nd could work, but I doubt it. Too much quantity for quality...

Basically case we just acquired JVR and Burke has stated many times in his drafts that he will choose the best player available, regardless of positonal need, and trade them if necessary. So ffor example, we needed a center but chose the BPA(Rielly) and he COULD get traded to fill a need.I suppose in this situation he could be moved to the untouchable column.

Would you really consider trading Rielly for Halak?

You should re-read the last line to what you quoted.

Moving Halak isn't a realistic option at this time. Brian Elliott would probably be attainable, but unless Jake Gardiner was involved(with the Blues adding additional pieces), I don't see any reason for St. Louis to consider it(I understand Toronto fans probably won't be receptive to that).

You should re-read the last line of my response. Not Rielly but I would Gardiner.

*Jaw drops*

Still, that would make a lot of sense, as Gardiner could be a long term solution to pair with Pietrangelo.

Halak isn't available. For any price.

We have a two goalie system that works great. Halak is the 1a.

A realistic 2nd pairing dman(we have Rielly who will be better) for a 26 year old starting goalie who's been solid and is our team's main need to be a playoff team. Give your head a shake! Burke would be all over that like Bryan Murray's spit on a mic. On top of that , Gardiner has been the suggested piece going to Vancouver for Luongo and his contract.

ya and i wouldn't do that either. Look at the goalie trades starting with halak goalies don't have massive value. Gardiner does not need to go

Elliot is not reliable enough to be the true number one.

There is less than zero chance that Gardiner goes for Luongo, and close to zero that he goes at all.

There is no way St.Louis would trust Elliot as there number 1, and either Allen or McKenna would be the back up.

So you want a starting goalie, but refuse to make the other team better... good luck.

Although I do want Gardiner and Lupul, Halak just is not a reasonable piece to trade at this time. I would not immediately shut down a Gardiner for Elliott deal, but I think Toronto fans would

How is Halak less expensive than Luongo?

Also, how is the cost for Luongo deemed unreasonable?

By all accounts, Luongo isn't going to cost more than Bozak+Franson and maybe one or two 7.0B and lower prospects.

I would love Halak but over the off season STL fans made it clear they are happy running Halak/Elliot for the time being. Seeing how no games have been played I am guessing that still stands.
