RPI just scored so it's 1-0. Turn it on. Baier is number 7

I thought Baier looked really good on the one Brown PP in the first period. He seems to make very good first passes out of the zone.

Sorry for the delay. Finished watching the game a couple of nights ago.

First of all, this was not the best televised game in hockey history. Single camera at center ice panning back and forth. It was difficult to focus on Baier for this reason.

This problem was compounded by the fact that Brown was playing sort of a strange system. The defensemen are extremely conservative and stay at the blue line in the offensive zone. The forwards cycle in a triangle down low and do not use the defensemen much at all. So when Brown had the puck, you would not see anything other than forwards cycling down low once they got into the zone. Through the neutral zone, they use a 1-1-3 formation, with one defenseman trailing the play, one taking the puck up ice, and the three forwards ahead. So you can see one pass made by the defenseman with the puck, then Brown plays 3 on 5. Very strange, I thought, and not conducive to scouting a defenseman!

Anyway, while it was hard to watch Baier, it appears that he is getting ample ice time, including on the top power play unit. He has good size, skates well enough, and plays the body. They were playing man-to-man in the defensive zone, and he did fine staying with his man. Needs to bulk up and get stronger on his skates, but hes young.

This was an extremely limited glimpse of him, but I think he's got potential. We'll see how he develops. On a relatively weak team like Brown, you would think that he will get a good chance to step up and lead the team, even if it is unlikely he will get good experience playing in pressure-cookers like the Frozen Four.

Here is the box score of the game:
