I've been enjoying posts on this board for a while, then found one I wanted to comment on regarding taping your stick. By the time I got the whole registration process done & some traveling completed at work - the thread was gone, so sorry for the redundant thread for some of you. But here's some thoughts I wanted to add...
Taping the stick:
I am a heel to toe guy, but only for the sole reason that I was taught that way so many years ago & have taped every single stick I've ever played with that way. While I would agree with the one dude that the old "hiding the puck" adage for using black doesn't hold a lot of water, I would say that colored tape for the blade (especially black) IS better than white. Why, cause as a forward I found it much easier to utilize peripheral vision when passing to teammates. White tape just seemed to "disappear" easier, especially if it was on a light colored blade.
One guy & I played on the same line for several years & used this (we worked very well together). The first year we toyed around with it. Black tape with two white stripes of tape woven in the rap, blue tape with red the same way, etc. Then when we found our fav, we stuck with it. After the second year, other guys on the squad made comments that they could always pick me or my buddy out of crowd. And this often times wasn't the peripheral vision aid, but the "oh $#it, I'm jammed half-way upside down on the boards but under this dude's arm is can see there's Bog's stick if I can just kick/push/blow the puck that way" thing.
I ended up ALWAYS using black tape with one red stripe down the center.
oh, yeah - up top, I ALWAYS use white. Colored tape up there just ****s up the palm of your glove. They get nasty enough as it is, why make it worse.
welcome. thats pretty interesting - i know that i identify guys on my teams by their socks, or pants if its roller. i never thought of the tape on the stick. whatever works, if it would help people find me for passes, id put on a clown suit. im also a stick geek, so i tend to recognize my linemates sticks, i can tell you what just about every guy on my team uses.
as far as the tape job, heel to toe. i use white because i use the same sticks for roller and ice, and black isnt allowed in roller.
i like white tape better it seems to hold up better than black tape for me atleast and i didn't used to tape my stick before every game and practice but i now do and i really see a difference in my accuracy in shooting and passing
