Christmas hockey is being discussed according to Damion Cox. If I am thinking correctly they have moved passed the CBA part of the negotiations and are now seeing when they games can be played. A podium is up for a press conference, this seems to actually be happening. Bring back the damn NHL please.

My "****s Given" meter has been pretty low as far as missing hockey for some reason, but with the thought of the season coming back it seems like just an amazing incentive to live.

Between the podium and the owners/players giving their scrap food to the media, this night has taken a turn for the awesome.

bob macenzie was saying

players would need about a 10 day camp. not sure about a preseason

but nhl could get 58-64 games in. I think what would happen is east teams wouldn't play west teams.

also with this new CBA will they also announce plans of a new alignment

It might be that I'm jet lagged to **** and rather drunk off of many 50ml bottles of jack daniels, but the last two or so pages of this thread has me in tears.

Talks done for the night and will resume tomorrow. Hainsey talked to the media but just said they had "candid discussions" and didn't take any questions.

It is time to rest now.

I think it's clear we are somewhere in the end game. Whatever happened when they moved around people who were in the meetings made this thing get serious.

-Owners moves from 211 million to 300 million in the make whole. NHLPA was asking for 383 million. We have compromise here and seems like they might be heading in the right direction

-Owners also budged on the UFA and arbitration rights, proposing the same as the last CBA.

-The one sticking point seems to be contracts. NHL will not give in on 5 year deals for UFA(7 year deals if he is your teams property) and 5 % variance. No word on what the NHLPA wants in this regard.

-Also Arron Ward says one major sticking point is the NHL does not want to honor full amount on existing contracts.

-Another major sticking point is the length of the CBA, NHL wants 10 and it is being said that NHLPA doesn't want one that long. Which I don't really understand.

Pretty much a wrap of all that was being discussed tonight. All this info came either from Ward's, Bobby Mac's, Damian Cox, and John Shannons twitters.

That is lame. I wonder how they would even work that out (i.e. all contracts longer than X years are cut short, or they can be if you want, etc.).

I get that. The NHL is not NFL or MLB. There is still uncertainty. If they sign a ten year deal and the sport doesn't do well a few years down the road or does much bettter a few years down the road, the owners don't want to be roped into something for another five years or whatever if it doesn't benefit them. I just hope that there isn't a lockout at the end of every CBA regardless of the length.
