No one will trade their 1st pick for one year of Graborik.
Eh, I could see a team, if they think they are one offensive piece away from a cup, moving a 1st rounder for a year of Gaborik... if the pick was late enough in the round (25-30th overall), it could happen.
If Nashville traded a 1st rounder for a month and a half of Paul Gaustad, then certainly a team might pay the same price for Gaborik, provided his skill doesn't completely disappear between now and then.
I could see a late first and a decent prospect, or a mid-first. If a team is trying to win a Cup and is in desperate need of goal scoring, he's a pretty safe bet(outside of the whole injury history thing).
don't really see him going anywhere, but it depends how Rick Nash turns out in NyR. and if Gabs go, then what was the point of Nash coming in? I think New York wants them both. no to replace gabs with nash.
Kovalchuk (+ Ansi Salmella) went for a promising rookie forward in the midst of a 20-goal season, a lower pairing defenseman, a prospect (recent 2nd round pick), and a 1st round pick at the trade deadline.
Hossa (+Pascal Dupuis) went for a useful bottom six forward, a depth forward/shootout specialist, a prospect (recent 1st round pick), and a 1st round pick at the trade deadline.
A full season* of Jordan Staal was worth a young 3rd line/shutdown center, a prospect (recent 2nd round pick), and the 8th overall selection.
A full season of Gaborik would definitely be worth more than a 1st round pick alone.
*Granted, it was obvious Staal would extend in Carolina. But it was also heavily speculated he would go there in free agnecy in a season, anyway.

I don't think it's a matter of if the Rangers trade Gaborik but instead a matter of when.
The plan was clearly to bring in Nash and take two legit runs at the Cup with him and Gabby. But then the Rangers were unable to get the deal done in Feb and now we have the lockout situation. Pretty unfortunate.
But either way, with the commitments the Rangers have coming up (Stepan, Hagelin, McDonagh in 2013 and Callahan, Lundqvist, Girardi, Boyle in 2014) and the possibility of a shrinking cap in the new CBA - I believe keep Gaborik is a luxury they may not be able to afford.
