The hockey here has been awesome, everytime #17 touched the puck the crowd went mad. Always more than 10k people a game, usually sold out. KHL is nothing compared to the NHL but having Ilya and others here made me really happy guy. I went to 6 games with my Devils jersey (only cause it's #17 lol) and got nothing but compliments and that does not happen often in Russia. Also met him when they opened a new store, he was signing there and his eyes popped when I asked him to sign the devils jersey. "Oh, thats a devils jersey" said Maxim Afinogenov next to him. Ilya kept his cool and said "Sure".

Just wanted to say thank you for borrowing Ilya for few months, we had a blast. Now excuse me I'm gonna wear my Tavares jersey.

Let's go NHL!!

PS. I hope he refuses to return to New Jersey Just kidding. Not.

Its amazing that though we, NHL fans in Europe, also suffered cause of lockout, had a rare opportunity to enjoy NHLers at least for a brief moment. I've watched our own Zagreb born player skate on a line with Sam Gagner, when KAC visited couple of days ago. And missed Clarkie by a week or so ... he left EBEL too soon

I shared story similar to yours with Pengun fans, cause we had their kid Dustin Jeffrey here in Zagreb for two months, and he was just awesome, on and off the ice. Both kids and old fans will have great memories, as we can mingle with players on ice after home games, plus they exit from locker rooms through our "official bar" in order to get out of rink. There is nothing like sharing a bear with boys after a win

I'm thrilled that lockout is over, but it did give me something to remember. That's for sure.

Just a low rumble for now, but there are whispers KHL teams may be offering "inducements" to get RUS stars to stay and not return to NHL.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
In last 24 hours, multiple sources told me NHL teams would do well to have roll call because it's possible a RUS player or two may not show.
I doubt they would be able to offer enough to make Kovy walk away from $80 million over his next eight years (or how legal it even is), but food for thought.

Will probably lose a guy or two for sure.

But not anyone that is interested in olympic or international play though right? They risk pissing off the IHF by not honoring contracts.

Visnovsky has been trying to get out of playing in the isle for awhile now.

Maybe Bobrovsky too. I don't think he eager to play in CBJ and SKA do not want lose their current main goalie.

edit: forget it, he just said he returns to NHL

Rumours are we start the season the 19th. at home against you guys. What's the newest about Kovy? I read the last comments here and as I understand it, you expect him to come back but you don't have a quote from him about the next days?

According to TG, Grossman is planning Kovy's return

Agent Jay Grossman said he is "working" on return plans for Ilya Kovalchuk, Anton Volchenkov (and other clients) to N. America.

Ha dude he bought a four million dollar plot of LAND haha... then built a CASTLE on top of it. He seems to be the sensible family type of guy to not build a life for his family and then just bolt.

Gérard Depardieu is going to hold Kovy's spot in Russia until he retires.

17 will be back and ready to dazzle.

I remember when he was building his house in Alpine I drove around after work trying to catch a glimpse of it, but I had no idea where it was (I drove into this absurd mansion area, which had Devil's Tower in the middle.). I assume there's guards posted outside his property gate anyway.

Did a little Googling, Kovy bought 2 acres for $4.5M on the Frick Dr. properties. The house below was the first one completed on Frick Dr. and is/was selling for $56M (can bee seen off of Closter Dock Rd):

That house is 30,000 sq ft. Kovy's building a 20,000 sq ft mansion.

Relax guys. KHL is softer than.. well cant come up with anything funny now but anyways he will be fine if he plays tomorrow. By far the biggest thing to worry about in the KHL is Artyukhin and he plays in CKA.
