Back in my day, players were not permitted to have moustaches because it reminded people too much of the Kaiser.

Fire Pete Walker.

How do you know they don't want to be there? Reyes is always smiling, Johnson wants an extension and Buck loves Toronto.

They just don't like being lied to, who does?

As for people talking about an upper limit, while true, in order to bring in free agents you need to win. This trade can do that. If they win 87-90 games (which is definitely likely) more fans will go to games and more buy merchandise. After that happens, you can open your wallets more next offseason and then a team with 90 (or close to it) wins can lure free agents easier

What suggests to you that they don't wanna be in Toronto? Because they're initially shocked to be traded a year after signing long term? Most people would be, no?

Reyes tweeted a picture of himself in Jays gear before the trade was even approved. That doesn't seem like an unhappy player.

Its the fear of the unknown. They're human beings. Most players who end up in Toronto end up falling in love with the city. I don't see these players being any different...

they are generally given other responsibilities as well. One of 1st/3rd usually is in charge of infield/outfield defense, with the bench coach taking the other responsibility. Remaining guy usually becomes in charge of base running or some other similar ancillary responsibility.

for us that means

Hale - infield
Murphy - outfield
Rivera - translator (kidding...maybe)

Agreed. He's literally never contributed anything ever. Don't know why anyone even bothers.

Isn't every team getting a nice slice of pie this year with new tv rights? (obviously not to the extent of the Dodgers) Or am I thinking of revenue sharing?

It starts next year I believe and every team gets 45 million a year with the new deal. The dodgers deal is on top of that I"m sure. I guess they won't have to worry about the luxury tax.

That's such a crazy amount. Granted, teams will likely pocket 75% of it unless there's a clause about re-investing. Either way, the Dodgers are going to be pushing all-in the next few years if they haven't already.

Well I'm sure owners like Loria will be pocketing a lot of it but there is no clause from what I understand forcing owners to re invest it. It's simply a new revenue stream which is huge for the league as a whole. Obviously, teams like the dodgers, Yankees and so on really don't need the extra revenue but it's very good for smaller market teams. It'll allow them to retain a little more talent.

teams are going to end up being forced to spend most of it. Players know the money's out there, and all it takes is a few teams to start spending it to drive up the market values of everyone.

maybe in year one or two teams will pocket most of it (though the blue jays clearly arnt), but over 3-5 years the market will normalize to the new revenue level and most of this increase will be seen going to players through payroll.

"Mottola described his coaching philosophy as 'very individualized"

"Everybody has their own approach and their own strengths, and I like to use those rather than one blanket philosophy,' he said. 'Itís more working on guysí strengths rather than a blueprint of one general approach for everybody.'"

Rivera is the infield coach, Hale is going to be doing a little of everything.

I believe it's 25m a year, not 45m.
