It is a concern for sure. I wouldn't be shocked to see starters go down. I would like to sign a guy like Haren (though he has injury issues too), Marcum or someone (Greinke is a pipe dream and Rogers won't give him the amount of cash he wants).

Going to a spring training game in March, pumped! Never seen them live before. Debating against Phils or Braves. Me and my son already have matching Lawrie shirts and Jays hats for the game

I'd love to see Haren signed to a 1 year deal.. Give him a shot at the #5 slot ... If he can regain his form from a few seasons ago that's a ridiculous 5 man rotation

ok because if you can hit 18 in KC you can probably hit 25 at the dome
and NY BAL TAM BOS ......

i dont think 20+ is outrageous at all
you look at his swing, it's not punch and judy

The Royals have discussed Wil Myers in trades for Rays right-hander James Shields and Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester, but Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports points out that the two hurlers aren't exactly equal. The two are owed similar money through 2014 ($24.625MM for Lester and $21MM for Shields) but Shields has been much stronger in recent years.

Canada just named its coaching staff for the WBC. Paul Quantrill is BP coach.

If Hentgen doesn't make himself available I could definitely see Quantrill being a candidate for our BP coach. From Ontario, canadian baseball hall of famer etc.

Hopefully they don't. I want no part of Wil Myers in this division.

If its in Dunedin, pick the one that's later in ST so hopefully you can see a starter pitch for more than a couple of innings

If its a road game, pick Philly since their facility is right beside ours and we might actually bring more than three MLB players there.

That actually gives me an interesting thought, why aren't more relievers bullpen coaches? (Or perhaps many are, and I am just unaware).

Napoli would be a good signing for them. The other two "meh." I expect them to overpay Swisher by a crapload. They said they are going to spend and watching us make that huge trade. It's almost inevitable that they spend money just to spend money. I don't think Swisher or Napoli really improves their team to be honest.

So AA said that he initially inquired about josh johnson, and when the asking price was outrageous, he said the only way he makes the deal is if miami sends more. Which in turn led to the deal growing.

I'm curious, what do people think miami initially asked for in return for johnson?

Maybe something like Alvarez, Nicolino, and Marisnick?

I think that would be a fair assumption. It'd be interesting to know how the negotiations went down, and who got added for what. I'm thinking it went something along the lines of

1. Marlins ask Alvarez + Marisnick + Hech for JJ. AA asks if they'd be open to moving Reyes

2. Marlins say Nicolino + Yunel for Reyes. AA asks for Boni as well.

3. Marlins are hesitant to give up Boni w/o moving Buerhle's salary as well, ask for another prospect, and want to swap Buck for Mathis.

4. AA is fine with adding Desclafani for Buerhle, doesn't want to take on Buck because of $$, Miami pays the $4.5M difference, adds $4M (presumably for Buerhle's signing bonus).

5. Players get called for physicals, information gets leaked to media

6. Mass hysteria and inferiority complex hits Toronto fanbase for next week while physicals go on before league finally approves trade

seems like alot
more likely 2 of those, because

if alvarez nicolino marisnick = johnson
mathis = buck)
then how does:
hecheveria escobar = buehrle reyes bonifacio ?

more likely:
nicolino marisnick for johnson
alvarez hecheveria escobar for buehrle reyes bonifacio (which still looks lopsided)

i could guess marlins wanted:
nicolino marisnick for johnson
thats probably where abouts AA asked for bonifacio as well
then it grew

Don't try to equal out an unfair trade. Doesn't make sense. Everyone knows Toronto won this deal, so trying to make the pieces even, doesn't make sense.

That would be awesome. Quantrill, along with Plesac, was my favourite relief pitcher from the late-90s/early 2000s. Quiet, steady, solid.

i don't see how AA would cringe if they asked for alvarez and marisnick. Alvarez might end up in the bullpen, and johnson is a proven ace. I think if miami originally asked for those 2 AA would've pulled the trigger immediately

oh i never knew that information actually came out. Seems like miami intended to move reyes then. I'm just glad that they didn't ask for sanchez or syndergaard right off the bat
