Team Rankings: Columbus Blue Jackets feature improved prospect pool

Below is the bottom third of the NHL Team Rankings in terms of prospects as voted on by Hockey's Future staff. To determine the ranking, each team's entire prospect pool was taken into consideration. For reference, just the top five prospects are listed. To be eligible, a prospect must meet HF's prospect criteria. The rankings are done twice a year, with the second scheduled to be published in the Spring.

The bottom third of the rankings consists of a diverse group of teams. Some of the bottom-ranked teams are successfully run organizations who simply have shallow prospect pools, or have recently graduated or traded some of their top prospects. read more

I don't know if I am a homer, but I don't think Avs should be at 28th, lol. Also Calgary should be higher.

I don't get it... how did the Canucks leapfrog the Jets? When you compare both teams from this article's rankings to the last one, not much has changed except that the Jets added Trouba to their top 5 while the Canucks added Gaunce.

The biggest and most pressing question is, how in HELL did SJ make it up to 24th?

They also have TJ Tynan above Atkinson.

It should be:
Murray
Erixon
Atkinson
Jenner
Savard
Dansk

According to the link provided in the OP, a player is still considered a prospect if he is under 24 and hasn't played more than 65 games(45 for goaltenders) in the NHL.

Kassian's 21, and has only played 44.

Not wanting to sound like a homer, but I expected Calgary to be higher. 20-15ish.

Seems like our goaltending depth was completely ignored based on the excerpt. Oh well.

Winnipeg should be higher as well.

Tommernes has been playing in the SEL for almost 5 years...

Craig Fischer has certainly made a hell of an effort to watch all our guys play, at least, which is certainly an improvement.

The Sharks pool isn't nearly so bad as everyone makes it out to be. We have tons of depth players and we're continuing to hit in the later rounds. We're still drafting extremely well, it's just the fact that we haven't had any first rounders besides Hertl in 5 whole years and several of those years we didn't have 2nd or 3rd rounders either. Considering that, our prospects are pretty damn good.

Still, 24 is a little high. I presume that's because HF is a whole helluva lot higher on Freddie Hamilton than I am.

I agree. I reckon the Jets' pool is better than ours. Visa Verca on the Sharks though, I absolutely cannot see how their pool can reasonably said to be better than the Jets' in particular.

No mention of Coutourier (sp) or Read for Philly? They are not mentioned as graduates, nor in the list of prospects.

Couturier and Read both graduated last year, so they wouldn't be included either as prospects or recent graduates.

Should they not be listed as graduates then? I only saw Schenn.

The difference is at the end of last season Couts and Read had played over 65 games and were considered graduated. Players like RNH and Schenn played just barely under the 65 NHL games and were still considered "prospects" by Hockey's Future and included on the top 50 prospects list. Over the summer it appears they decided that made no sense as they are established NHLers and are missing the cut off by like 2 games and excluded them from the top 50 prospects when they were released a month or two back.

So they essentially "Graduated" over the summer without playing a game because HF decided to make an exception in their prospect criteria. Does that make sense?

This scenario is covered in the note at the bottom of their prospect criteria.

Ahh, so Read and Couts were considered graduated during the last evaluation. Ok, that makes sense.
