So what do you think? Should the Leafs have traded away Steen and Colaiacovo?

We should have kept Steen.
We should have traded Colaiacovo.

Neither should have been traded for Stempniak.

Not for Stempniak perhaps but Steen definitely had developed the Blue and White disease. Glad he turned it around with the Blues but he needed to gtfo. Cola was just injured too much unfortunately.

Trader Cliff trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

That trade hurt this franchise more than the Kessel trade.

Imagine Steen centering Kessel for the last 3 years. There would be no Seguin or Hamilton in Boston right now.

That trade Cut the legs out from under Burke before he even got started. Lost two of his best assets.

The big mistake was not knowing Stempniak had the mental toughness of a pillow. I'd hope now they do more homework on players and how they perform in the spotlight, because in Toronto the spotlight is always there.

Even if Fletcher wouldn't have traded them, Burke would have. For a much better return, obviously. None of the players that were on the roster to open the 08-09 season, or since Burke took over, are here now. Steen should have probably been viewed as the lone long term piece on that club. Oh well.

Edit: Forgot about Grabo and Kulie.

Steen isn't a first line center. He's a 2nd/3rd and always has been.

Steen wasn't that good for the Leafs. People think because he's good now, that means he would put up the same points but thats not how things work.He had 2 goals and 2 assists in 20 games before he was traded. In fact Grabo and Bozak have both given better production than he has ever had ... ever. People just overrated him for some reason. Now for trading him for Stemp no but he really isn't that great

As for Cola,he just can't stay healthy

I'd trade them both still but not for Stempniak

no. didn't understand the trade because steen was pretty good on our team. wasn't much more then a 2/3 line C but he was good depth for a team that had virtually none.

cola was injured way to much so i understand him being shipped out.

Actaully Steens numbers haven't been that much better on the Blues. He was a 40-45 point player on the Leafs and he's a 45-50 point player on the Blues.

Also,Steen hasn't played more than 72 games since he was traded. Like I said, Grabo and Bozak have just as good if not better production than Steen does in St.Louis

Steen

09-10
24 goals,23 assists 47 points in 68 games

10-11
20 goals,31 assists 51 points in 72 games

11-12
15 goals, 13 assists 28 points in 43 games

Bozak

09-10
8 goals,19 assists 27 points in 38 games

10-11
15 goals,17 assists 32 points in 82 games

11-12
18 goals,29 goals 47 points in 73 games

Grabovski

09-10
10 goals,25 assists 35 points in 59 points

10-11
29 goals,29 assists 58 points in 81 games

11-12
23 goals,28 assists 51 points in 74 games

Grass is always greener, they point up similar or in some cases better numbers than Steen and people **** all over Bozak and Grabo. What would Steen bring any different? Nothing , people would **** all over him too

Nope. Just like the Stars probably shouldn't have traded James Neal to the Pens and the Avalanche likely regret trading Stewart and Shattenkirk to the Blues. It happens to every team. Hindsight...
