Paul Stastny to Chicago

What would the avs want?

How about

TO CHI: Paul Stastny
TO COL: Dave Bolland (or Frolik), Niklas Hjalmarsson, Jimmy Hayes

Bolland would be a great vet for the avs young squad. This would allow ROR to move up as their 2nd line centre, and run a 1a/1b with Duchene. They also get a rock solid top 3 dman who would stabilize their blueline

Hawks get younger up front and get a legit 2nd line centre while Bolland is replacable on the 3rd line.

Bolland =/= Frolik.

Assuming it's Bolland, the value is okayish, I think replacing Hjalmarsson + Hayes with just Leddy might make Colorado more inclined to listen.

That said I doubt Chicago wants to give up Bolland.

If it's Bolland I might take it from a Colorado POV.

Hawks wont trade Leddy, hes got too much potential. I think Hammer would go first cause he makes 5M

And we would want Hammer because....? We need a top pairing D. No interest in someone like Hjalmarsson.

Considering Hjalmarsson would be an improvement over pretty much every D in our team except for Johnson, he wouldn't be something we wouldn't want. But, yeah we have such an abundance in Dmen we would have to ship out someone if we take on Hjalmarsson.

The Hawks can't afford to trade Bolland for a 2C. They are better off having Kruger or Pirri center the second line between players like Sharp, Hossa, and Kane (who can and have successfully carried that line in the past) then having Kruger try (and fail) to carry the third line. Right now Bolland is the Hawks third line. He is the sole reason why that line has even been remotely respectable for the past 2 seasons and there is no one even close to ready to replace him. The top 6 will be effective no matter what because Toews, Kane, Sharp, and Hossa. The bottom six would be a disaster without Bolland.

I don't like the idea of trading staz for quantity. If we move a center it needs to be for a first pairing LHD to play with EJ, or an elite goal scoring winger to load up our top 6.

He makes 3.5 million just so you know.

I don't think the Hawks would do this deal. I do think the Avs should be all over this but I am not a big Stastny guy and also a big fan of their other two potential top 6 pivots.

This is even the better Hayes brother if I remember right?

I know the Avs think they can do a lot better, hey they might, but this is a good package in my opinion.

Also hugely confused on Bolland or Frolik, one of these things is not like the other...

How does this help the Avs?

Downgrade at center, a push at defense (we have 7 dmen + a few good callups sitting in the AHL) and a good but certainly not going to set the world on fire, prospect.

I wouldn't want anything the Hawks would reasonably trade us to be honest. Keith/Seabrook or Sharp/Kane are the only assets which would improve our team enough to be worth moving Stastny for.

This doesn't help either team. Duchene/O'Rielly are not ready to be a 1-2 punch right now, Stastny is their best center. This also takes away Chicago's depth, and Stastny is probably too expensive for them.

The downgrade at center is significantly bigger for the Avs than the upgrade from Hejda/Wilson/O'Byrne to Hammer. Staz may have had his production dip for a calendar year, but he's still an excellent playmaker, elite faceoff guy and damn good two-way player, there's a reason why he constantly shed his wingers when Dutchy's would get hurt. Bolland can carry a third line, but he can't carry a scoring line to take the pressure off of our kids and let them just develop at their own pace. Especially now that we finally have enough wingers for all 3 of our centers.

No way in hell we are trading Bolland + all of that for Stastny.

Sure, Bolland + a little bit might be good value for him, but it opens up a major hole @ #3C and I have no interest in trading Bolland for him.

I would do Leddy+.

If I had the choice I wouldn't trade Stastny for Bolland+, but I would make a deal centered on Leddy.

Not a fan of either team but what about Leddy + Frolik + Montador + 3rd for Stastny and Shane O'Brien?

This would facilitate a move of D for Colorado atleast, and the money that moves allows Chicago to take on Stastny's contract.

This just doesn't make sense. Colorado has no need to trade for depth players, and I'd really rather not have Stastny on Chicago at all. We've been in cap hell before.

So basically Leddy+two cap dumps for Stastny. We have no need for Montador or Frolik. Do you honestly expect a yes from the Avs?

I don't know what the Avs look like when Stastny is out but we always seem to look much more out of balance when Bolland is down. He really solidifies the checking line and the PK.

Yeah this doesn't make sense for either team, and the value benefits Chicago IMO
