Shogun is a top 5 LHW, that isn't even debatable IMO. Jones and Hendo are the only two that should be ahead of him.

As for Jones-Gus/Davis, Jones would absolutely slaughter Davis. I have no interest in that fight whatsoever. At least with Gus there's the intrigue of what problems his standup might pose for Jones. IMO Jones will murder him as well, but at least he presents a threat. Davis is like a very poor man's Jones. Jones will light him up on the feet, and dominate the wrestling. To beat guys like Jones/Silva/GSP, you have to be EXCELLENT at something.

I think you could try to debate Rua being in the top 5, but you better hurry. You only have a week.

Look at his UFC wins - Coleman, Liddell, Machida (finally a good W), Forrest, Brandon Vera.

Recently turned down fights with Jones and Teixeira, too.

Guy is THE most overrated fighter in MMA today.

I don't agree with what he posted but he did clearly mention Shogun's UFC wins and he's talking about the present. So what Shogun did over five years ago in Pride is irrelevant.

I don't see why not as most of them are still fighting today.

Overeem, Gono, Cyborg, Diabate, Lil Nog, Rampage.

Yep. All of the PRIDE stars have seen their stock plummet a little. Shogun, Wanderlei, Rampage, Fedor, Big Nog, and especially Crocop. The guys that were still developing back then are exceptions (Anderson Silva and Alistair Overeem, for example).

Do you want to talk 5 years ago? Should we talk about Arlovski and Sylvia being the most dangerous men on the planet?

Rua was great... Was great, back in the day. Too many miles on him, like most PRIDE fighters.

Hold on. Who ever thought Arlovski and Sylvia were the most dangerous men on the planet?

I thought it was common knowledge by now that the UFC HW, LHW and MW divisions were not the top of the food chain during the PRIDE era.

I would agree that Shogun's best days are likely behind him, but when looking at the LHW division Machida finds himself right back near the top, and he smoked Bader, Thiago Silva, and Rashad, and Shogun IMO beat him the first time and smoked him the second time. No one has been able to beat Machida like that minus Jones. That says a lot. It's amazing to me that Shogun's around +170 for this fight. But all that being said, I'm not all that high on Gus so if he beats Shogun then I'll have to change my tune.

I'm not so sure about that being the reason why, necessarily. This event is much better than several recent pay-per-views.

It's definitely to raise the profile of Henderson in the eyes of casual fans though - same as they did with Dos Santos. They needed a vehicle to promote the new guard of champions, and this is it.
