- Dealing almost exclusively from my prospect pool in any deal
- Will take offers on Penner and Gagne. Had a deal for one of them, but apparently that fell through (If you're so eager to deal... then answer your PMs!). Want prospects/picks for either.
- Looking for a Top-6 LW
- Looking for defensive depth
- Wouldn't mind picking up a cheap backup goalie
- Brad Richardson for cheap. 4th rounder/backup goalie/whatever.
It's a story that could only be written in Tinsel Town.
Late Wednesday night news broke that the Kings had consummated a deal with division rival Anaheim Ducks that would bring the "Finnish Flash" Teemu Selanne and countryman Saku Koivu to Los Angeles.
"The logistics of a move of this magnitude within the division were difficult to comprehend. There were many hurdles that had to be cleared, specifically the NMC in both their contracts. But once we gauged Teemu and Saku's interest, the deal with GM Carey Roy came together very quickly." said GM Soli in a statement to the media.
The logistics GM Soli spoke of were many. Almost all of the hockey world believed Selanne would retire from the NHL embroidered in black and gold; that he was a Duck till he hung up the skates. But it was a 3-pronged approach that swayed the Finnish Flash's fortitude.
"Being so close to Anaheim (less then an hour commute from their homes in Anaheim to Staples Center) and the fact that we're the defending Stanley Cup Champions were big selling points." explained GM Soli.
But the biggest?
"I told Teemu that the Cup was missing Saku's name on it." grinned GM Soli
"Hey, it wouldn't be Hollywood without a storybook Finnish"
"We had a chance to add one of the best two-way centers in the league so we jumped on it. We can either pair Zetterberg up with Giroux on the top line or put him in the 2nd line role and have one of the deepest center groups in the league. Giving up Couturier hurt a lot and Voracek and Coburn are good young players in their own right."
