Well, clearly we need to add a couple more elite players to our roster to keep up with this mess of a deadline.

Firesale on prospects!

We're looking for top-6 scoring and willing to part with prospects and picks.

Most importantly, we can take on 3 or 4 cap dumps, so consider that before closing any deal with another team. And think about all that cap space I can create for you going into FA. Oh, the possibilities for all of you.

That's a huge deal for a (most likely) declining player on a long contract.

(I'm just jealous I couldn't get the same return for Luongo....)

Penguins acquire two major pieces for the playoff run in Wisniewski and Umberger.

"It's become clear to everyone that this team has it's core - Crosby and Malkin anchor this team and we've surrounded them with some great talent over the past few years. However, we knew we needed to push the envelope and bring in greater depth in our defense and forwards coming into the post-season and we felt we've done that today by acquiring RJ and James"

James Wisniewksi
RJ Umberger

Derrick Pouliot
Pittsburgh 1st 2013
Matt Niskanen
Matia Marcantuoni

We've dealt from an area of strength in our D prospects (we've still got 3/4 NHL studs in Morrow/Depres/Maata/Harrington) and acquired 2 great players. Very happy with this trade and we look forward to a couple more before the deadline.

Nice deal for both sides on the PIT/CBJ deal.

NYI gets Perry, NYR gets Stastny and Regehr, PHI gets Zetterberg, PIT gets Umberger and Wisniewski, NJ gets younger adding Clutterbuck, Dumba etc. The Atlantic is gonna be fun!

We are happy to add a gritty guy like Clarkson to hopefully add some toughness to our top 6 forwards for the playoff run

The Devils confirm. David was a very effective player for us up to this point in his career and we hated to see him go but our team is older and we felt a rebuild was a necessary evil.

We are VERY high on Clendening and see him as a future top-4 puck-mover with a very high ceiling. We are happy to add him to Urbom, Larsson and Dumba as our future core on defense.

The Dallas Stars are continuing their push for a deep playoff run, acquiring Lubomir Visnovsky from the New York Islanders in exchange for Philip Larsen.

"It was tough to give up a young defenseman with good potential in Philip, but Lubomir brings over 12 years of experience to our club and gives us two very potent power play units."

New Threads; Jackets Deal Umberger, Wizniewski to Pittsburgh

The Columbus Blue Jackets continued the re-shaping of their franchise late Wednesday night, sending power forward R.J Umberger and offensive defenceman James Wizniewski to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"R.J and James have been consummate professionals throughout their time in the organization, but we feel moving them is mutually beneficial - we garner assets to reshape a new era of the Blue Jackets franchise, while they will go to a team that will be far more competitive in the immediate future." Jackets GM TribalPhoenix stated in a conference call this evening.

In return for Umberger and Wizniewski, the Jackets acquire Derrick Pouliot, the 8th overall selection in the 2012 Entry Draft, as well as prospect Matia Marcantuoni, defenceman Matt Niskanen, and Pittsburgh's 1st round selection in the upcoming Entry Draft.

"We are thrilled to add Derrick Pouliot, he was someone we thought long and hard about trying to acquire at the draft last year. He brings a dynamic game, and we feel is highly underrated. Matia Marcantuoni is an offensive talent with blazing speed who will be given time to learn the pro game, while Matt Niskanen brings solid depth to our blueline and experience in our dressing room. A 1st round selection in this years draft is a great asset given it's amazing depth, which now gives us 4 selections in the first round. We're very happy with this deal."

Lightining Flashes; Columbus Acquires Connolly, Purcell from Tampa Bay

The Columbus Blue Jackets have made another move to revamp their roster, acquiring former 5th overall prospect Brett Connolly, as well as forward Teddy Purcell, from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for centre Derick Brassard, veteran forward Vinny Prospal, gritty winger Matt Calvert, and Columbus's 3rd round pick in the upcoming 2013 draft.

"With some of the deals we've already made, we realized that you can't put draft picks on the ice. This was very much a hockey trade that we're very happy with." Jackets GM TribalPhoenix stated in a release this afternoon.

"We've acquired an elite forward prospect who is already developing his game in the NHL, as well as a 65 point forward in Teddy Purcell who will slide into a top 6 role immediately. It hurt giving up Derick Brassard, but we felt a change of scenery may be good for him in the long run while Vinny Prospal will get another chance at a Cup with Tampa Bay where has already won one. Matt Calvert is a solid prospect, and giving up a pick is always hard, but we feel we've gained great quality in this transaction."

True Grit; Jackets acquire Joel Ward from Capitals

It’s been a busy day for the Columbus Blue Jackets as they continue to tear down their roster, this time acquiring gritty winger Joel Ward from the Washington Capitals in exchange for veteran defenceman Adrian Aucoin and defensive prospect Will Weber.

“With the changes we’re making in our club, leadership is going to be more important than ever. Joel Ward has been to the playoffs, has been an impact performer in them, and knows what it takes to win in this league.” Jackets GM TribalPhoenix stated in a release this afternoon.

“We like what Joel brings to the table, and we think he can be an important part of our club going forward. Adrian Aucoin had no long-term future with our club, and as a result will get another shot at a championship in Washington. With our recent defensive additions, Will Weber was pushed down the depth chart more than he deserves, so this will give him a great new start in a team that is a bit shallower at that position in the long-run. We’re very happy with this trade.”
