DUCKS AND ISLES TRADE

The Anaheim Ducks have traded goaltender Viktor Fasth to the New York Islanders for defenseman Aaron Ness and goaltender Cody Rosen.

Cody Rosen isn't an actual prospect. His dad paid off Ryan Jankowski (Isles assistant GM at the time) to draft him in the 7th round.

His dad actually sent me a PM today to "ask" me to trade for him.

See: Vancouver 2008 7th rounder Morgan Clark - son of Ian Clark, goaltending coach of the team.

Also: Tampa Bay 2007 7th rounder Justin Courtnall - Russ Courtnall's son, daddy was part of TB ownership group at the time.

Jesse Joensuu can be had for a next-to nothing prospect. He isn't getting ice-time anytime soon on the island, and would do well with a system with strong European connections

The likeiness of Evander Kane leaving Winnipeg is dwindling.

Tobias Enstrom is still up for grabs. Brian Little, Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky are still up for grabs, each with not one single offer.

PRESS CONFERENCE

To ANA : Cody Hodgson, Mark Pysyk and BUF 2013 1st round pick
To BUF : Ryan Getzlaf

This move was likely the most difficult we had to make because we had to turn an important page in the history of our franchise. With Getzlaf and Perry being unrestricted free agents at the end of the season and since we were in no position to contend, we had to move on and retool for the future. But we want to send the right message to our fans. We are not going for a complete rebuild and it was important for us to acquire players that can help us now and be important parts of our team in a near future. Cody Hogson is exactly that. We like everything he brings to the game and he will get first line minutes as soon as this season. We knew that Pysyk would likely be used in another trade but we liked the value he brought to the trade. Considering the direction we are taking, another 1st round pick was also very enticing.

To ANA : Ryan Strome, Nino Niederreiter, Kyle Okposo, Calvin De Haan and NYI 2013 1st round pick
To NYI : Corey Perry, Sami Vatanen, Andrew Cogliano and Chris Wagner

Now, thatís a blockbuster trade. We tried hard to take out Vatanen of the trade but the Islanders were going really hard after him. Strome and Niederreiter are two young guys with high ceiling and we are excited to have them in our organization. We feel that Hodgson and Strome will be very solid down the middle in our top 6 (along with Holland to complete a very promising top 9). Okposo is a young guy with already some precious NHL experience. He didnít reach the expectations so far but we think he will benefit from a change of scenery. As for De Haan, he will get time to come back from his injury and continue his development in our organization.

To ANA : Jack Johnson
To CLB : Mark Pysyk, Nicolas Kerdiles and NYI 2013 1st round pick

Johnson was THE guy we were looking for. He is still young, has a lot of NHL experience and is signed on a longterm contract. He makes our defense a lot better and he will be used in many situations, being on the same pairing than young franchise defenseman Cam Fowler. We paid a lot to acquire him but he was the perfect fit and honestly, he was the only guy we were looking at to fill this need.

To ANA : Erik Condra and OTT 2013 4th round pick
To OTT : Toni Lydman

With the acquisition of Johnson, Lydman was the 7th defenseman on our defense. Considering that he was also an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, this move was for the best. We were in need of a few forwards and Condra was a good fit for the end of the season. We were also able to get a pick.

To ANA : Jonathan Bernier and Andrei Loktionov
To LAK : Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu and Kevin Lind

This move was really shocking for our fans and we understand that. Selanne was the heart and soul of our franchise. But with the new direction we were taking and the trade of Getzlaf and Perry, we felt that we had to give Teemu the chance to win another Stanley Cup, especially with his good friend Saku who hasnít win a Stanley Cup so far in his great career. Of course, it was difficult to trade them to a division rival but the situation was the best for them at this point of their career and for their family. We believe that Bernier can be the goalie of our future and he will get the chance to prove his worth gradually behind Jonas Hiller. We are also happy to add a guy like Loktionov that we can use in many situations.

To ANA : Aaron Ness and Cody Rosen
To NYI : Viktor Fasth

This move was only to give Fasth the chance to play after the acquisition of Bernier. We like Ness as a prospect and Rosen must be really good considering his initials.

UPDATE

We are done making the calls but we are still listening to offers (see updated roster).

If you don't ask about Fowler or a recently acquired roster player, you will get an answer.

Tough call between and who is winning the re-build race. Both of you gutted your core, but received a brand new one in return.

Don't call it a two-person race just yet

Confirm the Gysbers and Lombardi trades

2 guys that didn't fit in our future plans....Simon was behind too many d-men, Lombardi too many Cs. Glad to find them a home and get an asset back for each.

Hopefully another couple trades to announce tonight. It seems a lot of team's deals/offers are tied into each other (Team A has a deal with Team B...dependant on weither Team C choose Team A's offer or Team D's, and so on)......so i imagine you'll all see an avalanche of deals once the first domino falls

Toronto Acquires Rask......Promise We Won't Trade This One For Raycroft

The post-Burke Maple Leafs have committed to a proper rebuild, and they might be serious this time. The team shipped out UFA-to-bes Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak, acquiring highly-touted prospect Victor Rask and Carolina's 1st round pick in the 2013 draft.

"Obviously, we would have loved to keep Lupul and Bozak. But with both being UFAs, after the season, we couldn't take the chance of losing them for nothing. Carolina looks to be making a move and they will both be key contributors."

Still not half as great a draft story as Taro Tsujimoto

EDIT:

Toronto acquires Jesse Joensuu from the Isles for David Broll

I'm tired of typing. This trade was self explanatory. Paul Martin didn't work out, we acquired some future assets for him, including a possible future starter in Kinkaid. We immediately set out to find a replacement and we've done that.

Alex Edler
Anton Rodin
Conditional Van 3rd 2014

Chris Kunitz
Simon Depres
Pittsburgh 2nd 2013

This move gives us a Top 20 NHL Dman in Alex Edler, who plays the left side (a side we're weak on). He's excelled in the past playing with offensive partners, and we plan on taking advantage of that with Kris Letang. We're thrilled to grab a guy like Rodin, who has a high ceiling and just needs some more time to work on his defensive game and consistency.

We wish Chris Kunitz and Simon Depres the best of luck in Vancouver.

We may make one more move on D, but we're quite confident in our bottom pairing despite the league underrating them.

Filppulla-Crosby-Dupuis
Umberger-Malkin-Neal
Tangradi-Sutter-Kennedy
Cooke-Vitale-Armstrong
Glass, Adams

Edler-Letang
Orpik-Wisniewski
Strait-Lovejoy
Engelland, Bortuzzo

Fleury
Vokoun
Confirm

We weren't able to make any deals to strengthen us for a Cup run. So we decided to re-tool and get some decent assets for an upcoming UFA.

I will be around at times today and tomorrow for trade discussions. We will officially be done for the trade deadline after Saturday night.

Don't ask about Fowler or the recently acquired roster players. Everyone else can be discussed.

Sabres Acquire Enstrom From Jets

The Buffalo Sabres are delighted to announce the acquisition of Tobias Enstrom from the Winnipeg Jets. Headed the other way was Steve Ott, prospect Mikhail Grigorenko, Luke Adam, and the Sabres 2013 2nd round pick. We are thrilled to add Enstrom to our roster, whom we feel will be the perfect partner for Myers, and give us a dominant top pairing for years. We wish Ott, Adam, and Grigorenko the best of luck with the Jets. We are now in the hunt for a 3rd line center either with a cheap contract(3m or less) or a UFA this summer. Pieces like Gerbe, Tropp, McIlrath, and Enroth OTB to get get one.

Vanek-Getzlaf-Pominville
Elias-Ennis-Stafford
Foligno-XXXXX-Kaleta
Gerbe-McCormick-Porter
Scott-Ellis

Enstrom-Myers
Sekera-Erhoff
Leopold-Sulzer
Weber

Miller
Enroth
