I doubt it, for two reasons:

1) There are still issues to be worked out, and I don't think they can be entirely resolved tonight unless one side says the hell with it and caves.

2) The last time we even thought a deal was in sight, we went through five threads in about three hours.

The Lavoie article did have this as highlighted in the last thread...

Owners and players have the same goal now: they absolutely want to reach an agreement before midnight tonight, so that the executive committee of the NHLPA decides to dissolve the union denial

But later on in it it has this...

It is possible that the NHLPA does not put his threat into execution tonight if negotiations are well advanced. One way or another, the NHLPA may require another vote to dissolve, if ever there is no agreement with the NHL .

Could just be a bad translation.

Take that first sentence in RL's article with a grain of salt. He did go on to say that there's still a lot of work to do.

Personally, I don't see an agreement being reached for another week or so. But hey, that's a hell of a lot better than having no season at all.

Really not trying to burst anybody's bubble here (really, I think the deal gets done)...but to say that pensions are not a "big issue" may not be necessarily true.

Let's not forget that many businesses and entities from the auto industry to states and municipalities have gotten themselves into major trouble with Defined Benefit pension plans that simply do not make sense in changing times.

Not being a naysayer...just saying it may not be a small issue (he ducks behind his computer!)

This was somewhat misquoted before (hence why teachers say don't use google translate). Roughly translated is that "owners and player have the same objective, to reach an agreement before midnight tonight to avoid having the nhlpa committee decide to disclaim interest".
