The Sarnia Sting were swept out of the playoffs tonight by the Plymouth Whalers. Could see Reid Boucher signing an ATO and joining Albany.

Albany's in luck, they're in a real funk right now.

6 game skid where goals are hard to come by (by players not named Whitney or Sislo)... sound familiar?

It might be too late for Albany unfortunately, but at least Boucher/Merrill will get some good experience at the next level.

Well that was some good timing.

It looks like the fat lady is warming up. The problem with this team is it just can't score and apply enough pressure in the offensive zone and it's defensive zone coverage is not very good. Special teams have fallen apart. We give up 1 or more odd man rushes a game when we have the power play and have given up as many shorthanded goals as power play goals we've scored. I think we would be better just declining any power play opportunities. The roster is quite different than it was before the NHL season started. Butler is gone, Sestito, Larson, Gionta and Pesonen are in NJ. Josefson, Tedenby and Kelly and even Hrabarenka are hurt. Not counting Hrabarenka, that's 8 key players gone which is just too much for this team not to have in the lineup.

I thought you were talking about New Jersey at first. It certainly seemed like you could be...

Was browsing inlouwetrust.com and came across this article from back when Merrill was injured. There are some really reassuring quotes in there regarding Jon's maturity and commitment to the team. Figured it was worth sharing.

LOL @ Scott Parse.

I forgot we even had him in Albany. Remember very early in the lockout when people thought there was a good chance he'd make the Devils NHL team? I'm wondering if part of the reason Lou reached out to Darch for a camp invite had anything to do with Parse being a bust for us. He was getting scratched a lot when I followed Albany during the lockout, and he'd also had some injuries too. Is he really gone?

Parse is just as good as the 4th line swill we've used this year. Injuries just did him no favors. Doesn't matter as he's a dime a dozen player.

Poor guy. He's just trying to prove he can still play. Hopefully he gets a chance to work out and get his game back in shape somewhere.

So Albany could be getting Helgeson, Merrill, Black, Scarlett, and Boucher. Those would be some good, much needed reinforcements for them. Although I don't see where Helgeson would fit in.

Helgeson should stay and graduate.

First time since March of 2011 at any professional level (so disregard his hat trick in his charity game)......

That's incredibly sad.

I don't know but after Leach scored Hershey pulled their goalie, which is the proper thing to do when your goalie allows a goal from Jay Leach.
