Albany leading 14-7 in shots but down 1-0, mirror image of the big club

Shame. At least they had strong debuts, and they are getting good experience in the AHL.

The only time they made the playoffs recently was with John MacLean as head coach, go figure.

That gets more amazing with each year. And why I didn't blame Lou for making him the head coach after all his experience as an assistant here.

Some guys just have their own level though, plenty of NFL and NBA college coaches have flopped in the pros.

Albany was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yesterday. Severson was officially added to the roster today. 4 games left in their season.

How many defenseman do they have?

I'm assuming Severson being added is just on an ATO basis since his WHL season is over. He is still eligible for WHL next year right?

Albany has a butt load of defensemen, Severson signed an ELC during the summer so he didn't have to sign an ATO, and yes he's still eligible for the WHL.

Adding yet another defensemen has me curious as to why Scarlett didn't join Albany. Even if they didn't think he was ready to play he still could have benefited from being with the team.

I'm still questioning our developmental system. I mean Tedenby already had a tough time before playing any games there, Josefson hardly played there at all until the lockout, but I'm wondering if we have the right personnel up there. Henrique seems to be the only one who did well up there, and who's now doing well in the NHL.

We won't find out much until the defensemen come up to the NHL, and then guys like Matteau, and Boucher spend some time there.

Well they will probably have a new coach next year. Kowalsky missed the playoffs 3 years in a row I don't he'll be back.

Robbie Ftorek was at the game today. Maybe they bring him back.

Well coaches who didn't make the playoffs never lasted more than 3 years. So based on historical evidence Kowalsky will not be back next year.

I could actually see Robbie Ftorek being brought back if he really was there. Doesn't mean he will be, but I could see it happening. We brought him back about 10 years ago to coach Albany while they were the River Rats. I don't think he really had much success, but he may have been their coach during the NHL lockout when Parise was there?

He only lasted 3 years too, none of which were playoff years. Oddly enough he was just fired this season from the Erie Otters of the OHL.

Tommy Albelin or Kevin Dean. Bank on it. Brylin next year will be an assistant to whomever is new Albany HC.

My guess would be Albelin as well.

That'd be awesome, but I think Albelin will get tapped next.

Ftorek coached Devils AHL teams for 7 years, 1992-1996 (the most successful Devils farm teams, both in terms of on-ice success and player development) and then again from 2003-2006 (less successful, but a lot less to work with too - the rosters on those teams were pretty pathetic).

Why Urbom? What particulars about his game make you think he's ready for a full time NHL spot?

I've watched a lot of Albany's games this year. I agree that Urbom is the most NHL ready.

I'm not disagreeing, but in re-reading my post it seems that I am. What I really mean is - what has he improved or what looks better than his current AHL teammates that makes people think he's ready for the show? I haven't watched many AHL games this year.
