Some Rare Mario Lemieux Highlights for your Enjoyment

Thought people would enjoy these goals by Mario Lemieux which are not usually shown on his usual highlight packages....

The third one proves that NHL 94 WAS pretty accurate if you're Mario

But seriously that first one is scary how slow he just creeps on goal. The keeper and DMan literally must have asked themselves what else they could do.

As a tangential note, listening to that reminded me of how much I miss Mike Lange calling the games. To go from Lange to Paul Steigerwald and Bob Errey is like going from a Victoria Secrets model to Rosie O'Donnell as your girlfriend.

Fuhr is the only goalie who really even reacted to the shot on any of those goals.

It's like a horror movie. The defenceman was suckered into playing the pass 100%, by the fake pass and lookoff. All of a sudden, we're in the paint and boom!

Totally agree wish I could line up the radio better with the live feed.

first three goals defensive break downs and lack of know where to cover in zone....old school chickens with heads cut off.

the fourth was a nice rush for the point.

i did enjoy this lesson in how not to play defense.

Thought the same thing. Practiced with the best, played with the best. Although that's still not saying much. Everyone was schooled, lol.

Oldschool goalies always played standing high. It's unthinkable for modern goalies to play the same way.

I always love to see Lemieux go long side on wrap arounds. Who else even does that?

Another thing is how Lemieux used to skate at half speed and have defenders back off of him. He was so good at the bait and lure game.

The man had size, reach, and hands with cool nerves of steel to boot.

How could you stop him?

Thanks for these.

The first one shows that his forehand may as well have been a backhand: there's no guessing where he is going to put it. And in a flick of the wrist he puts it where he almost always did.

Haters gonna hate. Anyways, these reminded me most of how effortless he was with his hands and often his skating. I know the game is different now but compare Lemieux to players nowadays quick choppy strides.

I dunno, even 4 players holding and grabbing didn't work.
